CBC and Toronto Star report that witnesses heard the attackers shout "Allahu Akbar!" before opening fire. The first media reports were quick to suggest an anti-Muslim hate crime. Sounds like it was instead an intra-faith act of barbarity.

RIP to the people who died. Senseless act that will achieve absolutely nothing more than radicalize a few more persecuted souls.

Sad story. Why kill people praying peacefully?

By Saeed Ahmed, CNN Updated 11:46 AM ET, Sun January 29, 2017:

A second posted on Trudeau's Twitter feed showed him greeting a Syrian refugee. "#WelcomeToCanada," it read.

Canada has taken in about 40,000 Syrian refugees since Trudeau took office in November, 2015. In all, the US has accepted 15,000. Under Trump's executive order, the resettlement process for Syrian refugees has been halted indefinitely.

Why isn't Japan welcoming all these Muslim refugees? Trump has meaning in his madness it seems.

I read this and the reports of condolences sent out by Canadian leaders. I hope that they will continue to denounce this type of behavior if it comes out that those who did it were extremist Muslims. I noticed that they have captured two, and since they have not been shown my guess is that they may be Islmaists themselves, who probably were at odds against the Mosque. They picked a bad time to do this, since immigration has been in the news lately. My guess, they wanted to do this and have the world think that some Americans or right wingers drove up to Canada to do this. Since they spoke with a local accent, they probably became radicalized over the years.

JT, why did my comment get deleted? There was no attack on anyone or country. I was asking an honest question. Did pointing out Trump's ban make sense a problem with JT?

Sorry, you're not making much sense. Who would be fooled into thinking Quebecois-speaking thugs are Americans or any other non-Canadian? Quebec has plenty of right wingers on its own. Just one organization named on CBC or Montreal news has 40,000 members.

Any right-minded person will denounce this type of behaviour whoever did it and for whatever "reason". So your hope will certainly be fulfilled. You should be happy.

Trudeau said in a statement that “we condemn this terrorist attack on Muslims in a center of worship and refuge.”

An attack on one of us is an attack on all of us. This was an attack on all of us.

“I don’t understand why here—it’s a small mosque,” said a man who was inside the center at the time of the attack. “It’s not Montreal or Toronto.”

It is wrong no matter where it is.

No senseless acts of violence or murder have any place in any civilized community. Let us start to stand together as one community. The world has to move to act as one people with respect for all who want to live peacefully.

I hope that they will continue to denounce this type of behavior if it comes out that those who did it were extremist Muslims.

Why wouldn't they? When has anyone not done so when such an event has happened?

Trudeau took days before saying the attack in Berlin was from a terrorist. He was faster today. Is it because he's always in mosquees or because he learned that he has to react fast now that he's a leader not a drama teacher? Next time a muslim do something in Europe we will see if he is as fast as today.

No one is winner here whoever did it and whatever their purposed was. However, politicians and Government need to listen to their citizens said. R.I.P peoples who lost their lives.

TV news is reporting here this morning that the shooters were both Syrian "refugees" who entered Canada just over a week ago. . . .

As a card carrying member of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy, I would say this:

think of the victims.

Put politics aside until we KNOW who did this. Otherwise, the speculation will only grow more and more ridiculous.

Trudeau took days before saying the attack in Berlin was from a terrorist. He was faster today. Is it because he's always in mosquees

It's probably because he's the Canadian PM and not the German Chancellor.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Seems they were targeted a month ago with a pigs head and a note saying "bonne (sic) appétit".

At least it is being classed as terrorism by the Canadians - no matter who the perpetrators were or why their tiny minds vomited up such violence.......

3 ( +4 / -1 )

François Hollande, Obama, everyone gave their best wishes to Germany, but not Trudeau. You explain this because he's pm of Canada not chancellor of Germany?

They are not refugees. 1 is from Morroco and the other one from Quebec. Mohammed Khadir and Alexandre Bissonnette. Both were university students. The pig head was last Summer. They don't know the reasons behind it. The police just talked to the press, but nothing new.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Police have officially named the two suspects they're holding, Mohamed Khadir and Alexandre Bissonnette.

Whatever the motivations are for this, these Muslims were the victims. We should all understand that any of us can be the victims. Many people seem to only focus on who the perpetrators are.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

The Bissonette fellow doesn't look anything like a Muslim convert. He's an anthropology and political science student who posts quotes from Plato on his Facebook page. If I had to guess, I'd say he's one of the Trump/Brexit/Ayn Rand types. This could end up going either way. We'll have to wait to find out about Mohamed Khadir.

@ThePBot

Many people seem to only focus on who the perpetrators are.

Sadly this is true. But I think many people, particularly in Quebec, want to know if the threat still exists. The identity of the perpetrators helps us gauge that possibility.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

You explain this because he's pm of Canada not chancellor of Germany?

Yes, it's self-evidently obvious that that explains why he said something immediately after this incident in Canada, the country of which he is the Prime Minister, before any other world leaders.

Whereas you explained it as being because "he's always in mosques"?! Is he? Always? Haha, jog on

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau condemned Monday as a “terrorist attack.” Wow this guy has to be careful of what he is asking for. Just last week he was all over the news saying "Canada welcomes all Immigrants regardless of their nationalities" I guess with that comes terrorist. He pretty much made President Trump look good!!!

So for some reason you are equating "terrorist" with people of the Muslim faith. You have the right to thank for that.... but take a step back and look up the term. There is nothing inherent in the word to link it to Muslims exclusively. No matter the faith or ideals of the attackers, ANY act meant to terrorize ANY target or targets can be defined as a "terroist" one.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

There are a lot of embarrassed Islamophobes on the internet today, given that the 'Muslim shooter' turned out to be a witness, while Bissonette is the White, Christian, Right Wing 'suspect'.

Well, there would be if Islamophobes cared for things like fact. They don't, all they care about is the dirty thrill they get from screaming hatred, abuse, and ignorance at the top of their lungs and having it treated as acceptable.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

A white Christian terrorist did it. Trump is silence.

meen!!! stop watching FOX news right winger, they are saying only a bunch of craps to make the decision of Trump to look really needed... the guy was a French-Canadian student at the city university and wanted to go into politics. The Moroccan person arrested was just a witness(from what we know now), the 27 years old killer on his facebook liked president Donald Trump, Marine Lepene and the Parti Quebecois a sovereignist party in the province of Quebec, he was also a fan of birds and chess. UNTIL NOW, there's is no information on why that individual has committed such act... NO, he wasn't Syrian descent, nor a refugee, nor from Morocco, It has also NOT been said that he was christian(catholic) he might even have been atheist, agnostic or whatever religious faith he could have had... So before spreading false information PLEASE do some PROPER researches... **

To all who declared, implied, or assumed this to be an act of Islamic terror without yet having the evidence for such assumptions: I know you're never going to apologise or admit to being wrong, but I hope this makes you feel sufficiently foolish to in future at least wait until enough facts are publicly known before commenting

The real danger is the native born white nationalist terrorist. The sad thing is that the Trump disease has hit Canada.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Well, a little update is that it was only that one suspect who did this. The other suspect, with the Muslim name, was innocent and released. So now we can't use the "inter-Islamic violence" theory. The only reasoning now is it was done by a lone-wolf-totally-not-a-terrorist-crazy-psycho who happened to just be a White guy that hates immigrants and loves Trump. OR MAYBE (in Alex Jones's voice) he was a plant for a false flag operation, to take our guns away and discriminate White people.
