Zichi,
Its not a handout. A handout is where you get something for doing nothing. If you serve as PM for a decade a 10 million funeral is the least you deserve.
Its interesting that Thatcher never became wealthy to the extent that many ex-PMs like Major and Blair are. Some of you need to think about that for a moment.

Is it ignorance ? Major and Blair have had careers in honest trades, it is not the topic to nitpick about it. The beautiful Maggie had no need to become wealthy, or to ever work, as she married her millionaire at the end of her studies. Then, after politics, she was not as fresh as Blair but she did just like him, she took PR jobs for the big corporations. That was the honest side. The problem is that still was not enough dough for her. She had to become the most corrupted European political leader since... ever ? While she was in office, she used her access to international diplomacy, secret services... in order to make her arm dealer son super-duper rich. There is a book you could read : "Thatcher's Fortunes: The Life and Times of Mark Thatcher". She went away with it because of her political immunity, then when she was no longer in power, the prescription delays were over. Also her good friends and successors chose to ignore and even cover up the facts, so she could be made Lady, Baroness...and you know getting titles washes your criminal antics.
Not when you already served yourself. It's estimated the Thatcher clan has made like 60 million pounds (70 million euros) in the shady businesses I mention and keep that on offshore accounts. They need help to pay the funerals ?
