Trump will back down from this one. There's no economic benefit to a trade war for anyone.

The bigger issue is the TPP. Love it or hate it, part of the deal was the US showing it has pull in Asian by forging our own deal that excludes China. Since the US is leaving, China is looking forward to filling the void.

China is very happy with Trunp's cancellation of TPP already, their objective to embarass Mr. ABE has achieved.

When asked if China would retaliate, he said that “as a member of the WTO, China also has the right to ensure its rights.” LOL if the Trump thinks he can throw up huge tariffs at will without any repercussions i think hes going to be shocked. American businesses in China will find the going tough f hes chooses that path. Chinas economy has far more growth potential than the US in the coming years. Dont forget much of congress is in the pockets of big business.

It comes down to non-tariff barriers, which certain countries have very successfully wielded in the past (including Japan). Problem is you can't deal with these using retaliatory tariffs - it's like fighting influenza using a scalpel.

One would hope that, as happened in Japan, Chinese will eventually realize how these non-tariff barriers effect their standard of living and push for change (though this assumes a modicum of democracy far off yet there); and also that Trump does not go off his rollers when dealing with China's entry into the world.

Consumers are the only ones that have complete control over the success of any trade agreement.

Surely that's Corporates?

How many people actually believed those things that Trump said?

Because he's already backtracking on the Mexican wall, on Clinton's emails, on Obamacare, on Alt-Right, etc. now that he already got those people's votes and the election is over

It's not exactly a complete reversal, but in a matter of degrees, he's pulling a bait and switch - say whatever people wanna hear, but don't do as much as what was said

Just hope not that many actually believed what he said, or there'd be riots they were taken for fools
