Two immediate thoughts.

Bloody typical. In Japan, anonymous donors are practically lining up around the block, masked up, with their generous gifts of food and bags and toys for Christmas (a festival that foreigners usually mock the Japanese for doing 'wrong'). While in England, they're nicking stuff...

What were the people in charge thinking? Did they leave all the stuff in a carboot, or lying around unwatched? Surely they know what country they're in? It's a country of pilferers (I'm a Brit, I know) and as any fule know, you don't leave nice things unattended. Idiots.

I hope they get the stuff back.

An afterthought. Obviously, people had to have given the gifts to Great Ormond St. in the first place, for them to have been stolen, so I don't mean to suggest that Brits are mean-spirited. They are a very generous people. They're just dodgy, too.

The surveillance video should show the green, hairy-faced culprit donning a nicked Santa suit with a big devilish grin. He's a mean one.

Great generalisation there, Maria... some dickhead steals from the hospital so you label us all as dodgy? Lovely. Do you come from a crime-free country? Let me guess... no? Ooh, that must make you dodgy too.

Why not try reading both my comments first before you have a go, Thunderbird2? I am extremely dodgy; also British, but now I'm just repeating myself.

Fair enough... I apologise, Maria.

Not a problem m'dear (though I thank you of course!) - it is the nature of the JT beast, for people to snipe and lash out at anonymous others.

(Me, I like to think I stay true to myself and don't adopt a fake online persona, but I am extremely irritable and tetchy in real life too.)

Readers, please focus your comments on the story and not at each other.

Maria, this could have happened in any country, including here in Japan, but I think since it did happen in your own country of origin, and right before CHRISTMAS, it must hurt even more. I am sure if this had happened in Mexico, I would be letting off some steam here and on some Mexican newspaper editorials too, anyway please do not forget, that there are more good people in this world and I wish you and everybody here on JT a Feliz Navidad, or Merry, Happy Christmas!

"Nintendo consoles"

Waste of money anyway.

I hope the replacement gifts don't include those, and I also hope the thieves are caught, slapped upside the head and made to do community service for a long while.
