Duterte must go.

17 ( +28 / -11 )

China is already kicking Filipino fishermen out of Filipino waters. This guy is too stupid to realize he's getting played by the Chinese. He needs America a lot more than America needs him.

25 ( +29 / -4 )

Sounds like somebody needs some freedom!!

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Yes, Black Sabbath, I am sure the CIA are readying their plans right now. He too might be feeding the fish in Manila Bay in time.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

Wow, they don't call him "Duterte Harry" for nothing.

10 ( +11 / -1 )

Duterte isn't going anywhere, he won election easily and is popular in the Philippines. All the Filipinos I know in Japan support him.

0 ( +14 / -14 )

I am sure the CIA are readying their plans right now.

That's sooooooooo 1965. Nowadays, we just squeeeeeeeeeeeeeze.

2 ( +7 / -5 )

Duterte's a sexist (joking about the gang rape and murder of an Australian Catholic nun?) bully who's brutally implementing his version of law and order. He's been called a liar. He was born into a family that was financially comfortable.

Given these traits it makes me wonder if he's also a tax dodger.

12 ( +16 / -4 )

He's the Chavez of Asia. Expect Phillipines going bankrupt in a few years, supermarkets without toilet papers, children eating out of garbage bins.

7 ( +14 / -7 )

Interesting to see the aftershocks of his statements on our military bi-lateral ties. He has already cancelled all military exercises with the US from 2017 onward. All this progress made through many years to host forces into the PI on a rotational basis, shattered in months. So sad to see a madman in charge upend everything.

4 ( +9 / -5 )

I don't know why the big fuss when the structure for the Chinese takeover of Asia is in place according to the Global Accord. Japan unfortunately is leaning ever closer to China as well as South Korea. Many people who are not in the need to know or not seeing the big picture miss the point. Look at the signs, the US bases are now pretty much managed and administered by Japanese Military Labor Contract workers, 90% to .3 percent US civilian workforce and 7% military management. The Japanese MLC is involved in key everyday US operational facility capacity, logistical, maintenance, contract, Civilian Personnel, Finance, hell just about everything. Clearly even China is not that blind to see that the US drawdown was well started along time ago. Other signs, the 20/20 reduce the footprint, is clearly evident in many bases, even the once many populated heavy Philippine's personnel are hardly even present at US bases. YES in time the US too will pull out completely, just give it time. The signs are clearly visible the US presence and time to leave is here and the only one putting it out there is Duarte loud and obnoxious but at least he is in reality that the US is not doing much to protect Asia not militaristically but business sense.

children eating out of garbage bins

I had an overnight in Manilla enroute to Boracay about 25 years ago and saw poverty as bad as any I'd seen in India.

The country has long been controlled by a small number of ruling class families who have bled it near-dry for their own purposes. Many highly educated Philippine citizens are forced to leave their homes and go to work in Singapore, Hong Kong, the Arabian Gulf countries and other places (including this place) where they do jobs they are over-qualified (education and experience wise) for and where they are often exploited, even abused.

What is Duterte doing about addressing the dire poverty millions of his fellow citizens have to face? What measures is he taking to reduce the ethnic tensions found throughout the country? How about class problems and income disparity? Do people really think killing drug dealers (and perhaps his personal enemies and rivals?) provides much more than at best limited and temporary relief from the problems the country has had to deal with for so long?

And really, how would siding with Russia and/or China make things better for the average citizen or any citizen for that matter.

And '@thisisinteresting', why aren't your friends living in their homeland? Are you blaming the US and Obama - again?

8 ( +11 / -3 )

Go ahead Duerte. Another bully will come along...

0 ( +2 / -2 )

As a person who've lived in the Philippines for quite some time, and knowing many Filipinos as close family and friends, I can tell you that Duterte is quite popular there and abroad. Especially in Mindanao (where I lived) and among many Bisaya speakers. But even Northern Tagalog speakers like him. I can't tell you how much they hate the previous Aquino administration.

0 ( +6 / -6 )

Prediction: Duterte will be either dead or gone within 18 months. As simple as that.

Let the Philippines get into bed with China and see how life goes for them then. Examples of nations close to China: North Korea, Russia, certain African nations. Good luck.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

Duterte is one of the few leaders of "the free world" who is worse than even Donald Trump.

Japan is in the process of giving the Philippines military vessels and aircraft. I seem to remember reading that at least one ship was delivered in August.

Anyway, as long as this nutcase is in power, it might be better for Japan to hold off on its plans to boost the Philippine military.

4 ( +8 / -4 )

Yet another reason, if one were needed, why nobody should ever consider voting for Trump. This is what happens when immature irresponsible fantasists get elected.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

He get elected means Filipinos want ndeppendence? educaaaaated people know detail of Japann's horrible,e atrocittty but they don't hate Japan. Gujam people are same.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

The Chinese would be happy to "defend" the Philippines by building bases on outlying islands. Philippine fishermen will not be allowed access to the area for "security" reasons. I look forward to Duterte explaining this glorious victory to the people.

9 ( +11 / -2 )

He reminds me of Trump.

Might they be related?

2 ( +6 / -4 )

What a mess of a country the Phillipines have become.

You could not convince me to visit that place for love nor money

4 ( +7 / -3 )

Duterte is governing Philippine for his interest and not for the peoples of Philippine.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

He reminds me of Trump. Might they be related?

LOL. Maybe THAT would be the ONLY upside to Trump getting elected... having the 2 of them square off- maybe on Jerry Springer?

5 ( +6 / -1 )

This "shift" in foreign policy by Duterte really has no benefits for the Philippines.

The only reason he is interested in becoming closer to China and Russia is because those two countries don`t care about his grotesque human rights abuses.

Other than that they have nothing to offer the Philippines. China only real interest is in establishing its maritime claims, which are completely unreasonable and illegal (the Philippines just won a case against China in the International Court of Justice which established that, proceedings initiated by Dutertes predecessor), which of course will only come at the Philippines expense. In addition it is not a major market for trade with the Philippines, nor is it a major provider of aid (or any other objective measure of value you can come up with).

Russia doesnt have any disputes with the Philippines, but it also has almost no significant economic relationships or really any foreign policy or other interests at stake in the region. It simply doesnt care.

The US and Japan on the other hand are far and away the country`s biggest trading partners and providers of aid. The US in particular also has a huge Filipino population, so there are strong cultural ties as well.

So basically Duterte is destroying his country`s relationships with its biggest natural allies all for the sake of avoiding personal criticism of his domestic policies, and trying to switch to a pro-China/Russia foreign policy which offers absolutely nothing in return other than a lack of personal criticism.

When Duterte and his death squads are gone, his main legacy (in addition to the bloodshed) is going to be that his country is going to be more isolated and a lot poorer than it would have been.

11 ( +13 / -2 )

What's really bizarre is that he continually rants against US and Obama comments made over a month ago. He either has a political purpose or he truly is mentally unstable.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

Duterte, who seems to disregard the principles of justice and rule of law which are essential to the democracy which elected him, gives the world some idea of what Trump will look like if elected. Deranged.

...except that Trump's standing for the leadership of the World's biggest economy and biggest military power.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

So now we have a new Circus troupe coming up in Phillipines in addition to North Korea.

Wonder what Duterte has in mind.

Is he gifted by nature to be what he is or is there a bigger scheme in play here?

Is he trying to woo China,Russia by making drastic statements against US?

How is it different to be used by China and Russia instead of US?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

I am sure Obama is on his way there.

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

Duterte is trying to play the USA versus Russia / China ally card. Heck it might work.... hopefully he gets a Free Railway system out of China or cheap oil / natural gas out of Russia. The cost will be Chinese military bases on nearby islands, which the Chinese are already doing. Russia might want a military base somewhere in the Philippines too. Duterte is looking for leverage.... leverage he can use to get something. Now, if he's doing this because the USA and EU don't agree with his methods.... then he's a massive idiot.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

this guy is a moron, hes becoming Chinas lapdog, begging for scraps off the table.China will never return their waters until all the resources are picked clean.

5 ( +9 / -4 )

“Eventually I might, in my time, I will break up with America,” he said without elaborating. “I would rather go to Russia and to China.”

Please do. China and Russia need friends.

4 ( +8 / -4 )

Oh just look at the big leaks that told the world what America thinks of it's allies?

Please the proof is there and it was a massive backlash on America that see ties go sour.

They treat there allies like dirt behind closed doors......We all see that.

If you don't like it explain why?

-7 ( +4 / -11 )

Historically speaking any friendship and alliance with US comes with an expiry date.

Not sure whether this holds true with Russia and China too.

The sooner the nations realize this, the better for their own good.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

CrazyJoe said: "This guy is too stupid to realize he's getting played by the Chinese."

Or maybe you should have said: The Phillipine people are too stupid to realize he's getting paid by the Chinese.

Think about it. Duterte never complains about the Chinese, even though they're the ones who are helping themselves to islands and territorial waters belonging to the Phillipines. It looks like Duterte is their go-to guy to get what they want without firing a shot, and it wouldn't surprise me if he, Duterte, had a Swiss bank account funded by the Chinese.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

Duterte tells Obama 'you can go to hell'

You first.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Duterte tells Obama 'you can go to hell'

Was that a bad statement??

-7 ( +4 / -11 )

Loose cannon for sure. Estrada played a thug while President, and now this guy is a real one.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Well, I wonder what the CCP will call their new "administrative" zone. 10 more years and we'll see what happens.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Duterte vs. Trump in Las Vegas in a one round battle royal or at a sight of Duterte's choice!

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Do we need any more proof how little the world respects Obama, one of the weakest presidents to ever be elected president of the U.S.?

-8 ( +5 / -13 )

This is music to my ears! The days of interventionism are numbered. The sooner we are out of asia the better. The USA doesn't need any of those countries, although i am a japanophile i would still advocate immediate evacuation of all military personnel.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Do we need any more proof how little the world respects Obama, one of the weakest presidents to ever be elected president of the U.S.?

Seriously?! Duterte has to be the least respected leader on the world stage at the moment. It's like the town bully telling a respected member of the community to go to... Who cares what he thinks?

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Do whatever you want, the little Hitler of Southeast Asia. Go to Beijing and kiss Xi Jin-ping's feet, and the Filipino people will amend the Constitution to let you rule for life.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

This man is a complete and utter idiot - and a murdering scumbag - and he's in charge of a nation of 100 million. Moving away from the US & Japan and closer to China may be good for lining his and his friends' pockets, but it will be bad for the Philippines and will involve territorial concessions.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

@Yoshitsune America is arming all the terrorist so what's the difference?

You people live in a dream world!

-8 ( +4 / -12 )

Say what you like about Duterte, except that he has intelligence, judgement or class - he doesn't.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

@obliqueweapons

"America is arming all the terrorist", whether true or false, is completely unrelated to this article or anything I said about Duterte. Go and whatabout somewhere else.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

It's amazing how half the time the right talks about how Obama is weak, and the other half the time they call him a warmonger, all the while criticizing Hillary as a Hawk, while completely ignoring that Bush, supposedly strong, made a mistake equally as big if not bigger than Vietnam.

These people are clueless. They have no idea what they want. They are literally all over the place. It just shows their modus operandi to be to say that whatever the opposite side has done is wrong, and that they themselves can do no wrong. It's a joke.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

This guy acts like a Dictator more than an elected official. His words: “Eventually I might, in my time, I will break up with America,” he said without elaborating. “I would rather go to Russia and to China.” If you're Filipino... you really need to look closely at this man's language and actions because your Democracy could be a thing of the past. I'd be willing to bet that he continues to stir things up.... that he accuses other elected officials of being traitors to their country. He wants power and he's willing to throw the country under a bus to get it. If you've got money in the Philippines or investments... be careful going forward. This guy is corrupt with a capital C!

4 ( +6 / -2 )

sounds like he could do with a nice big spliff and maybe a few "E"s thrown in just to chill out a bit!!

1 ( +2 / -1 )

While his manner of delivery leaves much to be desired, the message regarding drugs resonates from within the population. The PI has a huge drug problem, and he wants it to end, but does not want to baby those sick from addiction and wants to literally kill anyone and everyone connected with the drug trade.

There are plenty of Filipinos that approve of his methods.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

I say the US should just say they are going to pack up and leave and "good luck with China". Sure, Duterte would point out that despite being proud to be called Hitler, and his human rights violations Abe is more than eager to be an ally, but the Philippines is still toast without the US, and he knows it or they would be gone already.

But the man has to go. He's already set back the Philippines a few decades. If he keeps this up it'll either be another Venezuela, or worse, or else he'll end up dead himself (or ousted, like Marcos). The guy is as bad as Trump in terms of being unable to control his outbursts after being criticised. If it weren't so serious and so many people weren't dying as a result of the man's insanity, it'd be funny. As it is, it is just extremely sad.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

@smithinjapan It will bring peace and i bet they even share they sea strip with them soon.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

Was that a bad statement??

Yes.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

As much as I agree with smithinjapan.... the U.S. cannot react in the same manner as Duterte himself. If I were President Obama I'd be on the phone with Japan's PM Abe. Japan also cannot afford to see the Philippines fall under a Sino - Russian umbrella. The U.S. has to figure out a way to take the air out of Duterte's balloons but at this point I do not know what leverage they have with him. The guy is either very, very smart or a total idiot. Reminds me of Viserys Targaryen.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Abe should also follow suit and cut military ties with the US. It's a waste of tax payer's money to maintain all these bases around the world.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

"Do we need any more proof how little the world respects Obama, one of the weakest presidents to ever be elected president of the U.S.?"

Well at least he isn't WANTED. I'm sure Dick Cheney will enjoy his life in his country for the rest of life without having to travel abroad.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Love it.... what did people expect Obama to do... have the CIA take out Duterte when he started to get some traction? Is it always the responsibility of the USA to make sure possible rouge politicians are dealt with? Heck... look at Trump... we've got our own problem with a Duterte type crazy man. If things continue to go the direction they have been... we're headed for global war. Politicians have maxed out their credit lines.... its time for a reset. If you've got extra money, dig a big hole in the side of a mountain, fill it with supplies and hide the entrance because too many thick headed egotistical idiots are running things.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Peps who have not been to the Philippines should not just believe the international media hook line and sinker and especially the local press which is 96% owned by the opposition .

The press just choose lines and sentences they like and delete the rest.

Duterte have more than 92% support in his country.

Why? Go figure !

I won't even point out the obvious lust for the murder of an officially elected leader. No. But I'll say this.

For a very long time the Philippines has deteriorated into a cess pool of crime and destitution only because the 'chosen' families, supported by good ol usa, maintained it that way. There is absolutely no thought about the constituents. So in all honesty, before whipping out your pc or mobile phone to vomit nonsense, take a few minutes studying the history of the nation and maybe you can get educated as to why the people CHOSE D30!!

I apologize to the American people, Duterte doesn't represent Filipinos, he represents himself. Many Filipinos hate him. He's been unstable like that since he was a mayor. The guy obviously has mental issues. He is quickly losing popularity by the day. Just ignore him and his dumb supporters. Let's just say some voters emotionally made a mistake of voting him. The guy is an idiot.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

I love this guy. He shows how to get the war on drugs won. If the West did the same drug related crime would drop and the oxygen thieves who deal would get theirs in full. As for anti American rhetoric, he is not the only one who thinks the USA has interfered in World affairs for too long. The USA is the cause of ISIS and the humanitarian crisis in Syrian due to their incessant desire to keep the Middle East destabilised for their Saudi chums.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

omicron: " He is quickly losing popularity by the day."

That's the scary part -- when lunatics who are unhinged as he is start being told whom they are and what they are doing wrong, and the threat of them losing power comes into play, they become desperate, and dangerous! This is a man who cannot take criticism -- so far he has had to make MAJOR apologies to Obama once, and the Jewish people earlier this week -- so his hold on things being threatened will be met with harder measures than how he is supposedly dealing with drug lords and pushers. He is going to declare himself a supreme leader (make the nation into a military dictatorship) and literally SLAUGHTER those who stand against him, once again claiming it is for the Philippines and its people that he is acting as he does. I pray I'm wrong, but I see it as a very real, very distinct probability.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

I apologize to the American people, Duterte doesn't represent Filipinos, he represents himself. Many Filipinos hate him. He's been unstable like that since he was a mayor. The guy obviously has mental issues. He is quickly losing popularity by the day. Just ignore him and his dumb supporters. Let's just say some voters emotionally made a mistake of voting him. The guy is an idiot.

Then why pray tell did the majority of the people vote for him for president?

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

SmithinJapan,

No, he won't. Many Filipinos are allergic to the words "Martial law" and if he declares that, he's going down like the last dictator. Some people still support him because they are still giving him a chance,, he's been in office only for five months. After a year or so, patience will run out.

Yubaru,

There were around 50 million voters, there were 4 candidates. The looney guy got 16M, the other three got the rest. Technically not a majority in my book.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

16 million votes ?

That's after the LP Comelec point stealing!

Duterte could have gotten 20 -22 million votes easily!

His lead was so insurmountable that cheating him would already be so obvious that they instead cheated on the VP race instead!

http://www.manilalivewire.com/2016/10/president-duterte-ordered-esperon-to-buy-israeli-made-defense-equipment-and-weapons/

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Yes, if you ask his supporters he could have gotten 200 million votes even though there are only 100 million Filipinos. They really like these fake sources and satire (by the way, most of his supporters can't understand the difference between actual news and satire). There are cheating at the local levels. everybody knows that. I assume it was worse in Mindanao where there are many corrupt politicians and their supporters.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

I'm not supporting Duterte's murdering of drug 'suspects', but I know some Phillipinos will know of the barbarities the US employed when they first annexed the Phillipines at the turn of the century, or their support for brutal and corrupt leaders since then. For the US regime's REAL attitude to drugs, look at 'Skull & Bones', financed with Opium money made by forcing China to allow it's import and sales; heroin sent into the US in bodies and body bags of victims in the Vietnam War; of the massive CIA import of cocaine into the States in Iran/Contra (see 'Compromised' by Terry Reed; 'Cocaine Politics' by Peter Dale Scott; 'Crossing the Rubicon' by Mike Ruppert; 'Dark Alliance' by Gary Webb (he 'committed suicide' not long after publishing his book). Take off your rose-colored spectacles when you gaze upon the 'Land of the Free', and see the underlying 'Murder Inc.' that really runs it.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

Paul Barbara,

Many politicians all over the world are connected to illegal drugs. I support his war on drugs but not extrajudicial killings. I support his policy against corruption and red tape. What I don't support is his policy shift to China ( I don't hate Chinese people) because of the sensitive issues on South China/West PH sea.

The funny part is most drugs in PH are from China and he prefers them over the US. How hypocritical is that?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

I pointed out I don't support his murder of drug suspects (or even drug addicts or traffickers). But the good side is, anything that weakens the 'Great Satan's' drive towrds the NWO 'One World Gulag' they have planned, and the culling of 85-95% of the human population. This may seem far-fetched if you have not seen the evidence, but they intend to achieve their goal by famines, wars and artificially-produced pandemics as well as 'vaccination programmes' and simply taking over productive land, and food control. I haven't got time to furnish links, but the information is out there, and it is frightening. Oh, and ALL of the major banks, including the Vatican Bank, launder drug and other dirty money.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Yubaru,

Then why pray tell did the majority of the people vote for him for president?

Well . . .

Did the majority of Americans vote for GW Bush?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Go to China or Russia, you knob end. And if you decide to build their bases in the Philippines. I guarantee a hyper sonic nuclear missile will be pointed straight at Manila, or several. You will be the first to go if push comes to shove. No loss.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

This guy won't be around long

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

omicron: "he's been in office only for five months. After a year or so, patience will run out."

If he solidifies himself with the military during that time, things could change easily. Doesn't take much for people turning against him to find themselves to be 'drug dealers' and at the end of the shooting gallery. It's the 'giving him a chance' thing that should be stopped NOW -- the man has already amended laws to benefit his personal ambitions.

In any case, I have absolutely no doubt that many if not most think as you do, but thanks for letting us know -- a lot of the more vocal people tend to be supporters, so it might give a false impression.

oldman_13Oct. 05, 2016 - 12:44PM JST Do we need any more proof how little the world respects Obama, one of the weakest presidents to ever be elected president of the U.S.?

Don't worry. In 4 more months we'll have a President with real cojones. Like Hillary.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

adding that he may eventually decide to “break up with America.”

A leader of a sovereign nation telling another leader of a sovereign nation to "go to hell" sounds like the break-up has already happened. We don't need to go to hell, we'll just sever ties with Duterte's Phillipines and let Duterte dogeza before the Chinese.

Heck... look at Trump... we've got our own problem with a Duterte type crazy man.

Exactly. Duterte is giving us a preview of what Trump would want to do once he was placed in the White House. I say WANT to do because unlike the Phillipines our Congress would shut down Trump in a bi-partisan manner similar to how Congress has been shutting down Obama in a partisan manner.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Exaggerations and fear mongering knows No bounds with liberals. But then again, Hillary would take our guns away.

Or like if Hillary is president, they will shut her down, in a partisan manner....hopefully.

You say you want a change to the past 8 years, then push the same as the past 8 years.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

No big deal...

He just happens to be the President of another country that happened to say it out loud in the public.

Worst thing are probably bring said and being actually planned or being done not only against Obama but the USA. Words are expressions and as long as he does not act on that thought, at least within th USA, it is allowed with the First Amendment. That right seems to be slowly disappearing, though.

Every country has to deal with their problems their own way, and it depends on the people within that country. The question of human rights is always "whose" human rights? Is it the right of victims or the aggressor? The other question is who or what determines the "righteous" and "correct" definition of human rights? It certainly is different in Muslim countries, Christian countries, Communist countries, and many others.

So far the people of Philippines have expressed that they feel they have a need to address the massive problems, drugs and otherwise by "force" as the current President is doing. So what he says is minor when his actions are devastating for many within their country. And as with Kim in N Korea, it took "guts" to sound off as he did. Word may be insulting, demeaning, threatening, etc. but it definitely does not hurt someone physically.

The USA has major problems ranging from racial, religious, sexual, to what ever... that is NOT being addressed nationally at all... That means if it gets worse, Martial law. If a war starts... Martial law. That is not much different than what Philippines is facing today. And from all indications that may happen.

Sadly those that are trying to address the problem are not being heard or even allowed to try to address and to correct them. Those that do sound off in the USA are NOT being heard. Those that do try to solve those problems are being prevented from doing so.

Why?

That is probably what the Philippine President wanted to refer to. At least he is trying to address a problem which in his country, violence as in the Muslim countries today is not uncommon going both ways.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

This guy is freaking insane.

He may not care for the US but he really would be a fool to buddy up with China and/or Russia. And he will drag down his whole country in the process.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Duterte is no Trump.

Only those who are not knowledgeable about the Philippines are quick to have such an opinion.

This is typical American sense of entitlement that portends to show the world their superiority in everything!

Therefore it's ok to attack Syria and insists on deposing a sovereign extant Syrian government because they have the perceived right to interfere in the affairs of other nations as they so wishes at will.

Look at Iraq, Libya, Afhganistan and Syria right now and people would understand why Duterte is very wary of them Amerikanos.

It was just recently verified that a coup attempt was encouraged by a former navy mutineer who is now a Senator close to Aquino.

Those peps who are degrading the Philippine President who now has the support rating of 97% better focus in their local arena where the world is amused by the character or non-character of their two major presidential wannabes .

Some pundits are wondering why a country so vast as America only have a racist billionaire-tax evader and an e-mail delete genius who Trump says lack stamina as their major candidates.

A Roman sage says this is a clear sign of the start of the fall of an empire!

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

Exaggerations and fear mongering knows No bounds with liberals.

What amazes me the most this election cycle is how Trump supporters can actually type something like this with a (presumably) straight face after Trump declarations like the huge exaggeration:

“Hey, I watched when the World Trade Center came tumbling down. And I watched in Jersey City, New Jersey, where thousands and thousands of people were cheering as that building was coming down. Thousands of people were cheering.” (Donald Trump on ABC's "This Week" November 22, 2015)

or the fear mongering regarding Mexico:

“They’re sending people that have lots of problems and they’re bringing their problems,” he said. “They’re bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime, they’re rapists, and some I assume are good people but I speak to border guards and they tell us what we are getting.” (Donald Trump in his speech announcing his candidacy - June 16, 2015)

I guess Trump supporters feel that if they take all the criticisms of their candidate and try applying them to the opponent's supporters, then everyone will forget what a douche their candidate is.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

You say you want a change to the past 8 years, then push the same as the past 8 years.

No, not the same of the worst president since Carter, but something totally different and something that is not related to Washington. Hope that clarifies any confusion. Unlike Hillary, at least Duarte is an honest man, gotta give credit where credit is due.

What amazes me the most this election cycle is how Trump supporters can actually type something like this with a (presumably) straight face after Trump declarations like the huge exaggeration:

Probably because after 8 years and seeing that their lives are turned into crap by this guy, reality slowly started to sink in or PTSD.

everyone will forget what a douche their candidate is.

I wouldn't call Hillary a douche! A liar, definitely, but a douche....Never!

I will say this though, whether it's Trump or Hillary, this guy is a basket case, No question about that, but let's all keep a cool head and see who the next person will be that he will insult.

Yeah man, who cares about the thousands murdered. Who cares that he encourages this sick, extra-judicial violence, "at least he's honest." Deplorable.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Too bad Hillary and the president can't be equally as honest.

But you're ok with Trump lying over 60% of the time?

Surely you can see the hypocrisy here.

After Duterte was elected, 7677 pushers and addicts surrendered to avail of the government rehab program. Another 3356 were captured in police operations. About 2889 were also murdered by suspected rival drug organizations trying to cover their trail. The latter started even before Duterte took his oath of office

Yet the press called all the killings as extrajudicial !

How do you call those serial killings of unarmed and non-hostile African -Americans by police in America? Suicide?

Luckily there are still some American media that are fair enought in their reporting and presents all the facts instead of just selecting a few savory phrases.

I do hope that a day will also come that my beloved Okinawa will be called the Crimea of Asia for still being colonized and subjugated against their will by an occupying power !

1 ( +1 / -0 )

toshiko:

Aren't you hoping that Abe could be as independent -minded as Duterte?

All those bases in Okinawa could be gone by now !

Japan is right to give the Philippines modern weapons instead of those WW2 era ships .

This is a sign of respect on the part of the giver and Duterte appreciates being respected instead of being ordered around!

Tokyo is thankful that Manila pardoned many Imperial Japanese soldiers that were facing possible death.

In Okinawa we have a tradition that the giver should be humble and respect those in need like one treats a superior and not the other way around.

When I was in the Philippines last August , I was very surprised and very touched that this particular Ryukyuan tradition was practiced by the Duterte administration.

For the first time in a long drought the government ordered that farmers be given FREE irrigation water! The Agriculture Sec also released tractors and other farm equipments that were all locked -up under the previous oligarch government.

Many farmers cried ! I also felt crying when I saw rusting Made in Japan tractors finally coming to life!

Those who despise Duterte are the traditional oligarchs who owns the press so news like this are seldom reported.

Duterte said: "There are 3 million drug addicts (in the Philippines). I'd be happy to slaughter them."

You can proclaim yourself as the most die hard DU30 fanatic, but don't say that these are all media's fault as there are videos that show these statements coming exactly straight from his Dirty mouth!

You said:

After Duterte was elected, 7677 pushers and addicts surrendered to avail of the government rehab program. Another 3356 were captured in police operations

I personally know high ranking police officers in the Philippines, who are still very active in the drug trade and still serving in the PNP up to this day.

How do you call those serial killings of unarmed and non-hostile African -Americans by police in America? Suicide?

Atleast the offenders in the US are all in custody, unlike in the Philippines where the culprits got pay raise (taken from the people's taxes!)

you said:

About 2889 were also murdered by suspected rival drug organizations trying to cover their trail.

QUESTION: Who are these organizations who run the drug trade in the Philippines and potentially covering up their trail?

ANSWER: THE PHILIPPINE POLICE

This is Duterte's mistake, The police are not idiots, they are wise and evil and very good at what they do! The police knew already that Duterte will win right before the election results were revealedl, they prepared and planned things already right before Duterte took the position. Due to Duterte's big mouth, recklessness and very predictable moves. The police worked things out to cover up themselves. What Duterte should have done is to first, totally clean up the entire Police, I am not talking about a nationwide Drug Test, that is stupid as police don't use drugs! they run and make money out of it, but they don't use! but instead what did Duterte do? he increased their salaries and empower them to get rid of anyone who they think are involved in the drug trade. So these killings are probably done by the cops who are indeed cleaning up their trail,so anyone who has a potential to snitch them are killed, from small time drug dealers to ex drug addicts who got rehabilitated but used to buy from them, the fact that they know who sold them before is still a risk. So right next to the corpses of these "alleged drug dealers" they found sachets of drugs and guns, so it's not extra judicial killings, they fought back and police got to do what they go to do! hahaha to that, we were not born yesterday dude!

So Duterte will part ways with America because this is what the filipinos want!? Bro if you are a Filipino apologists or you know Philippines and Filipinos very well, can you imagine filipinos without america? can you imagine filipinos without Facebook? can you imagine filipinos without fastfood? malls? Chocolates? can you imagine filipino entertainment industry without the influence or ripping off american pop culture? can you imagine taking away all the "IMPORTED" things away from the Filipinos? can you imagine filipinos without our obsession with WORLD CLASS FAME which only America can give?

Filipinos are very emotional, proud and probably the most confused people on this planet, we sometimes say mean things but deep inside we just want attention. We sometimes don't think the weight of the things we say because our culture can easily forgive and forget without really thinking what the damage can it do to us. We are a nation full of "PAKIPOT" (Google it) .

These cops are dirty for decades. do you think they will just come out like that and and wave a white flag and leave their luxurious life?

And if they have heavy evidences, why make a televised statement and beg for surrender!? why not just build a case discreetly, collect evidence and arrest them? these televised warnings by Duterte and Bato are too showbiz! to show people that they are working on it, and thanks to that as the real criminals can get cues of what they are planning. Very poor intelligence unit.

@Hiro.dont you know politicians change mind as the situation changes just like any human being? Abe, too. What he want to by being friend now is cooperate Filipina's desire too be independent country so that Japan can have another Asian growing country that will be rconomiiic and trade. Partner with Japan. Beside that unlike you, Japan like to get. rid of troubles GIsi full American miliiitttary force in Japan and sympasixe with Filipinee than Obama and Pentagon.

I agree with you all the way.

The Filipin police in the past were very tainted. My missionary friend got arrested at the airport for carrying a bullet in his backpack. Problem is the bullet was not his but he's detained after refusing to give 50,000 peso.

The airport police now are very professional and courteous and the toilets are clean!

The world would be a better place without the interference of the US acting as self-appointed world policemen in other country's affairs. The Philippines is dealing with their drug related crimes in a way it sees fits. The Human Rights Group should instead criticize the US for these everyday killings of unarmed black people by law officials who are clearly above the law. And the constant invasion ( by the US ) of countries that don't seem to want to dance to the US' dictatorship.

I just went there 2 weeks ago, nope toilets are still dirty, faucets are not working, How can you assure that the bullets found in your friend's bag was not planned by the allies of this current administration to fuel hate from the previous administration? we all have our own speculations, you could be right, but I could be right as well. However, it should not go one way or the other. So are you saying that we should ignore these 2,800 people who got killed and were just "ALLEGED" drug dealers/users because we have cleaner toilets now and polite policemen!?. Plus the problem of the Philippines is not just the aiport! Duterte should focus on solving POVERTY! if he can solve poverty, drug problem will be solved too, that's 100% sthe solution to all the problem we have. But tell me, how can he solve poverty if he Isolates Philippines more? You don't bite the hand that feeds you.

The topic seems to be Pres. Duterte here, somehow there are sanctimonious people who insults the people living in that country and the country itself. Words are singularly the most powerful force available to humanity. We can choose to use this words constructively with words of encouragement, or destructively using words of despair. Words have the energy and power with the ability to help, to hinder, to hurt, to harm, to humiliate and to humble.

I'm not sure ... it has been a few months and I don't remember the translation, he was chastising them pretty loudly and also castigating those who didn't show up.

But just found the same meeting on youtube, in the description it says:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2IqtF5TAu70

Dela Rosa also threatened to kill the police officers if they will return to their alleged illegal activities.

The video was published Aug 7, 2016, have any cops turned up dead yet?

Also, any action on the 'bounty'?:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/duterte-offers-reward-for-corrupt-police-linked-to-drugs_us_57c42bace4b04193420fecaf

... Singling out corrupt policemen known as “ninjas”, who take pay-offs from drug lords, Duterte said he was placing a 2 million peso ($43,000) bounty on their heads, telling their colleagues to “squeal on your friends”. ...

Why would Japan provide rehab centers where they cannot even sort out some rehabilitation issues here in your own country? Plus Japan is an ally of America, indeed Shinzo Abe is helping especially during the past administrations, the previous presidents were cooperative, but Duterte is leading a war path with America which a big ally of Japan. so how can you convince us that this guy is leading our country properly?

The Marcoses are all out, Juan Ponce Enrile is out, Bong Revilla and Jinggoy is going out soon, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is also out, All of these corrupt officials are free! tell me if that is the accomplishments you are talking about?

some small accomplishments, not many, and along with these small accomplishments is a big risk of breaking good economic relationships with our big allies.

Plus one question that he hasn't answered yet, what is his plan to end poverty? indeed 8888 hotlines are helpful! but the people need food, shelter and jobs! How is he gonna do that without America and EU?

It's scary to think of what Duterte would do here in America, where 24.6 million (9.4%) of the population uses illegal drugs. California's Governor Brown said he would not sign a bill legalizing marijuana because he "didn't want to govern a State full of dummies" so the choice seems to be Duterte or dummies.

Media is focusing ONLY on Duterte's bad side (literally his bad mouth). If you ask the Filipino people about his accomplishments, you'll be astounded by how much he has done since he started working as President. It's just so sad that Duterte is working hard and risking his own life to defeat the druglords that the Oligarchs put so much effort in protecting.

That is what the Duterte apologists believe,I am a filipino and I don't see and feel the changes he's done at all when I went back in Philippines for a visit few weeks ago ti's still the same, I still see poverty and rugby/solvent sniffing kids are still everywhere. It's not true that majority of the filipinos like him. Yup he got the highest votes (16 million) among his 5 rival Presidential candidates but there are 84 million more who didn't vote for him ;-) .... we tried and gave him a chance, but obviously this guy very determined on his path to self destruction and we don't want to be with him.

Why are you blaming the media when these statements are obviously coming straight from his mouth without editing? stop being an apologist and maybe as a supporter beeter to educate him about his limitations. Do you really think that ISOLATION from our key allies is the key to solve the problems in the Philippines? come on....

The situation reminds me of what Mike Ehrmantraut said to Heisenberg in Breaking Bad... Duterte is like a bomb ticking and we don't want to be near him when he explodes.
