Apparently, they need to know everything, but we common people need to be in the dark.

There are going to be lots of charges of hypocrisy, but that is not the point. The point is that two wrongs don't make a right.

Ha Ha, Merkel....egg.......face

Pot, meet kettle.

Love it, love it. So where are the typical echo chamber screaming liberals that were screaming the the US is in violation of what? Friends don't spy on friends, eh. Eat crow! Don't even try to spin yourselves out of this gooey poo cocktail. The US should be ashamed of itself and Europe should ban together to fight this. How dare the USA do this! Lol For once, I'm kind of glad, we have the (ahem) hero Snowden to reveal to us the truth that's out there. LMAO

Apparently Europe spies, too isn't as salacious as "US SPIES ON MERKEL!", thus this article is buried at the bottom.

I'm still waiting for the usual typical liberal bashing Europeans to come out and yell bloody murder at these shocking revelations and condemnation for these practices. Where are the Snowden loving crowds at today? Well, I will just say, we need more Snowden's! He's a hero, how dare the Europeans engage in spying!! It's just so beneath them. I thought Europe stood for value and liberal democracy and listening to my calls. The nerve!

Looks like Snowden is determined to get everyone on the planet out to get him. Glad the Europeans got egg on their face. Let's face it, everyone spies on each other. But as I've said before if it's to protect the people, property, their freedoms it doesn't bother me. It does bother me when it's being done on it's own citizens as an authoritarian measure.

Ok, I will admit, I am a little bit evolving on the issue of spying on US citizens, seems like it's a bit too much.

@Ossan

The revelations attributed to Snowden expose the evils of governmentS that deem themselves above the people. Yes, they are all corrupted. Which batch of goons is leading the charge? US/UK as usual.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

I think some people are afraid to criticize Europe because it will somehow lessen the impact of their criticism of the US. Stories like this are a threat to them and they want it to go away quickly.

I don't. I despise all these people who sow mistrust and invade personal privacy, I don't care where they come from.

That said, spooks don't always share their information and activities with the leaders of their countries. I don't think the CIA tells Obama everything anymore than I think the BND tells Merkel everything.

B4F,

Securocrats exist everywhere.

Did someone say two wrongs make a right? Of course not.

This thread has been kinda empty, I think since the typical usual suspects can't pin this on America, why comment at all.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

What about Russia and China? Don't they do any spying?

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Superlib,

I condemn this behavior unequivocally and unconditionally.

Russia was handing out spy code thumb drives at the G20 summit in St. Petersburg. China has the PLA hackers probing corporate and government web sites everywhere. Face it, everybody is doing it. Our civil liberties have become a hoax. If you're on this board or surf anywhere the government knows all about your habits, what kind of money you spend, and on what. Privacy is a farce. Liberty is under threat. And don't do anything to end up labeled a "terrorist" unless you want a hellfire missile with your name on it...

So bass, whaddya think?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

They say that the really important stuff that is discussed by those in power will never be in the news, but Snowden has taken us one step closer to knowing a bit more about what really goes on in the surveillance area. Without his kind of help, we really are just fed what they want to feed us even though we may think we know a lot about things.

Let Government to do it job. I don't worry about Government spy agency hacking my email or my phone if they suspect me and it will help the country attack from terrorists.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Of Course Russia and China are doing the Nasty - Nasty as well ! However, Mr Snowden isn't going to release any of those activities, that would be foolish///////// Never bite the hand that feeds you !! And, that's Just the Way it is,,,,,,,,,

One aspect of the UKUSA Security Agreement is that member states use it to get around anti-spying laws in their own countries. The Brits have “contracted” the Canadians to spy on members of Parliament, the NSA to spy on Princess Diane and even the FBI to spy on the Beatles.

Germany is a third party member of the UKUSA Security Agreement and, as stated by Edward Snowden himself the NSA and the BND are “joined at the hip”. It wouldn’t surprise me in the least to learn that the NSA tapped Merkel’s phone at the request of the BND.

I think you are panicking for no reason. Who are you? You and I are small fishes, plankton. They are not out to get you or me. What are you worried about? Did you do something that could be used against you. Are you afraid someone will be knocking at your door someday? So what do you want to do? Take on the NSA and all the other spy agencies. There is nothing you and I can do about it. We can bitch and moan all about it. Obama can apologize to Merkel all day, but she has to be a fool if she thinks the WH or any one won't bug her phone again or anyone else's phone or portable device, that's just the world we are all living in now. Do I like it, not necessarily. Am I paranoid about it, Naw! I got other things to worry about. If the government wants to listen to all my phone calls, they would be bored to death, because I'm not plotting or saying something that would get me on a black list.

I think you need to relax a little more.

Oh, and just to add what Kuya said, John Lennon also was watched and monitored by the CIA. Nixon tried very hard to have his application for citizenship declined, because he spoke out against the Vietnam war and being influential as he was, that was a threat to the Nixon admin. So this has been going on a very long time and always will, we just have to live with it. We'll never get the program to end, never. You can either liver a paranoid life, constantly looking over your shoulder or you can enjoy it.

Full of paranoia much? Let me reiterate. Governments don't give a rats ass about the minor crap their citizens do (except NK and China and their ilk) Most western governments don't care about the minor every day life crap that their citizens do either. They do care about people that are intentionally out the harm their country. While these countries do need watchdogs to protect their citizens freedoms and rights, there also needs to be secrecy about certain things about a country to prevent from making every person a viable target for information gathering.

That said, spooks don't always share their information and activities with the leaders of their countries. I don't think the CIA tells Obama everything anymore than I think the BND tells Merkel everything.

@Controlfreak, wow someone else actually understands that the US president does not have a know everything pass to the intelligence agencies information. Many folks don't realize the station of the US president is a temporary one while the intelligence agencies have been around practically before he was even born and will be around long after his death. Presidents are only given information on a need to know basis in the US. Presumably so do other countries with PMs etc.

Aside from government espionage and intelligence gathering, everyone still totally ignores the even more active corporate espionage and spying that is going on even on every little product or item a normal every day person uses or buys. Have fun with that can of worms for a change.

When will governments around the world ingrain in their heads that Snowden is no government's friend. This is the same Snowden report they're using to condemn! So next time they want to use a Snowden report to advance their own agendas, they'd better think again what else is in there that's in their name.
