The war on drugs is a failure. Time for a different approach, as if its not so obvious there should not be a need to speak it!

Legalize but control drugs like alcohol. Watch the cartels vanish. Later roll back the legalization for the harder drugs. Make the cartels start from scratch.

Doing the same thing over and over but expecting a different result each time is insane.

The 16-year-old boy, who did not want to be identified, said an attacker entered one of the homes and asked partygoers about a car parked in front of the home, suggesting the killers may have been following the vehicle. He survived the attack by throwing himself to the floor and other partygoers fell on top of him, shielding him from the bullets. I see that in this case, the mafia was already hunting somebody down, they found the guy's car, it happened to be a party, the mafia could not care if it was a bunch of kids because most of the scum mafia come from broken families, never had a father or mother to teach them right from wrong and they just want to bring down everybody to their hellish level. Rajakumar has a point about poverty, but this is not only poverty, these mafiosi are SATANIC, if you read any Mexican newspaper in SPANISH, they write about all the blood drinking, human sacrifices etc..these Mexican mafia bastards go through to pray to get their drugs safely into the USA etc..RIP poor kids in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico.

So sad that the inocent always suffer the most. Used to go to Juarez to party back in the young Airman days. Would not go anywhere near the place now.

I'm sure this has Marisol Valles Garcia pissed off.

I'd suggest rather legalizing guns, make it so everyone is armed, and the cartels will find it too tough to recruit people, as they will know, going on an attack like this, would be like committing suicide.

Talking2U has the right idea. Now, check this out:

Cash aid programs, neighborhood improvement initiatives, educational and job-training programs were part of the new strategy, together with ubiquitous convoys of blue federal police trucks patrolling “safe corridors” throughout the city.

Well, the cash-aid programs aren't as LUCRATIVE as the EASY drug money. Right?? It's obvious what Mexico and the US must do: LEGALIZE all recreational drugs. Of course, we all know that both governments have their dirty hands in the drug trade and that's why it's too hard to give up. Only a fool would believe otherwise. Furthermore, it's clear both governments do not give a rat's ass about PUBLIC SAFETY; otherwise they would've legalized said drugs a LONG time ago. People, wake up and ELECT sensible leaders.

It all starts on Nov 2 in California with Prop 19 to LEGALIZE cannabis (marijuana). The majority is now in favour of this and I predict that this event will be a domino effect in other US states and countries around the world. Mark my words!! Novemeber 2nd, 2010 is the day that the Mexican drug cartels start to lose their free money.

Very interesting maxtheitpro says LEGALIZING all recreational drugs as a quick cure, I JUST SENT IN MY OVERSEAS BALLOTS TO MY LOCAL CALIFORNIA Polling station to LEGALIZE MARIJUANA USE for 21 years olds and above, but we all know that 21 is way too late, so your big bro, big sis etc..will be able to LEGALLY HOOK YOU UP! With out the MAFIA and PAYING 10% on all of these herbs.

It is naive to think that legalization of drugs would eliminate the drug cartels. Their focus is to be what is called the "plaza boss" of all crime within their territories. This is already seen in large scale crime unrelated to the drug trade they engage in now such as siphoning off oil to sell on the black market to small scale crime like shaking down flea market vendors. Evil is the only adequate description of the drug cartels. They have no regret for mistakenly killing teenagers at a party.

Regular comments are realistic in several aspects really. But besides we must mind that USA is the main consumer of drugs that transit for corruption of Mexican goverments. Thus USA control many points in Mexico, Latin America and USA self with very high corruption in New Mexico, Texas, California and Arizona.

As much as it may seem that way, its not a joke. I don't particularly like the idea either, but the sad fact is, when armed thugs go around murdering people, nearly at random, putting guns in the hands of everyone, would make people generally safer.

Erm, do people not already carry guns, or at least have guns at home in Mexico?

“Why, my God, why,” shouted the mother of Daniel Figueroa, 16, after she identified her son’s body.

RIP-- I certainly share this woman's anguish...

I don't think the legalization of marijuana (as proposed in CA) is that simple. I'm sure there would be some proponents that would think it'll be the 'end' for drug cartels in the state. It won't.

I support the bill though as it's practical, by not punishing crowds who do need cannabis for medical purposes, and for making clear penalties in violating the prohibition of marijuana.

Somehow it's naive to think the bill would open floodgates for 'recreational use' of hard drugs like ice, cocaine and heroin. I don't wish that for California, and of course for my own neighborhood... AND IN FACT, it's best to make penalties against sellers of these hard drugs more severe to protect and clean the streets.

90 percent of Mexico's recovered crime-guns come from (drum roll please) the U.S.

Care to provide us with evidence, rather then just making up statistics. I know its the popular thing to blame the US for everything going wrong in Mexico, but those numbers are just totally false. There are a lot of guns that wind up south of the border, but its nowhere near 90%.

This is a dumb argument. What is the difference? It really doesn't matter if 40 percent or 90 percent are coming from the U.S. We know a lot of guns are going to Mexico and it's a problem. Facts are many guns used by Mexican cartels are bought in the U.S., with Arizona and Texas being major sources.
