How can people make judgments on the President on his first day in office. If he watched the protest from the white house he probably thought what a popular guy I am with all of these women come to see me.

This sort of massive protest is unprecedented, especially when you consider there were protests in other cities around the world. I honestly don't know how Trump is going to bring the country together. The divisions in U.S. society are going to get worse, I fear, and that cannot be good for the world. I guess the only hope is to say that in three years and 10 months, a new president will be elected.

The protesters are great, but should be under no illusions.

Less than 10% of the 293 Republican legislators who control both houses of Congress are women. No woman holds a Republican leadership position in either the House or the Senate. There are only two women in Trump's cabinet the highest rank of which is Secretary of Transportation!

The GOP dislikes and ignores it's own women, so it's certainly not going to pay attention to anybody else's.

They should be marching on a media who reassured them for so many months leading up to the election that Hillary would win in a landslide. I can sort of understand the mental anguish from that perspective.

I think many people are aware of his history with women (and people he believes are beneath him, i.e. the 99%) and are protesting that. Only his most loyal followers, his truest believing cultists and the billionaire global elite who stand to profit from his reich, will cry that the numerous accounts of his having demeaned and even assaulted women over the last few decades are fake news, or even scarier not important. For some reason these rightists and cultists are able to ignore and/or accept that the man has been a spoiled class brat all his life accustomed to getting whatever he wants by stepping on people. I think it's interesting to contrast Trump and Brexit here. With Brexit we've been discussing WTO rules, tariff and non-tariff barriers, trade deals, capital flows and so on. It's mostly been a legitimate debate that goes to the heart of the issue. Contrast that with Trump and it's just been a whole load of nonsense and a few shadowy conspiracy theories. I've heard alot less about how unfeasible many of Trumps promises are and alot more about how he's going to be grabbing p****, fleecing America to enrich himself, and launching nuclear attacks.

How about the men who marched with the women? Are you saying they should not have the right to peacefully protest? They were given permits by their respective governments so they were legally authorized to do so.

I think that's a fair assessment. It's certainly the most divisive political even in recent history but so far nobody has seriously been accused of being a traitor, a sexual predator, a fascist or a foreign puppet.

Perhaps the big difference with Trump is that he's an unknown quantity and none of his policies are particularly detailed. Once we see the plans and policies, perhaps the criticism will shift to something more substantive and less apocalyptic or sensational. But for now I guess we are stuck with talking about golden showers and debating whether Barron Trump is autistic.

Partially correct raw beer. They are also caused by DT's policies and vision. I am not a woman let alone a '1st generation feminist' yet I do understand women's concern over losing access to free birth control for example, especially for those living in states that restrict abortion access.

Overall, I'd say that the Brexit debates did tend to focus more on the issues and a practical discussion of them. There was a touch of the Trumps about Johnson and Farage who did go for the visceral approach at times although both are far more informed then Trump. It's revealing that Farage has landed a job at Fox News, a place where he really can wallow in the visceral and not worry about detailed and reasoned argument.

Why are they protesting Trump? I don't suppose any of these women have taken a moment to think about how and why Trump became president. But if people were genuinely capable of independent and objective thought, America and the world would be a much better place, and Trump would still be building hotels.

Trump is a result or a symptom, and not the cause. These women are barking up the wrong tree, blaming the man who was elected, and not the broken system which caused him to be elected.

Why did America elect Trump? Because they no longer trusted the establishment, which has abused America and many of it's people. It is not Trump they should be protesting against, but the RNC, and the DNC, who, through their gross corruption and mismanagement inadvertently put Trump in office.

Washington and the power structure which exists there hates Trump. It has tried everything it can to keep Trump out of office, everything. It has spent billions to defeat Trump, it has leaked anything and everything it has been able to dig up on him. It has manipulated the media and manipulated the polls. Yet none of it has worked.

Now Trump is president, and has the reins of power in his hand. Since Washington could not defeat Trump in the election, it is now trying to diminish his authority. Why is Washington doing this? For the money, of course. Trump has promised to cut federal spending by 20%. It sounds like an empty promise, but Trump started by holding his inauguration for 20% under budget. A 20% cut in federal spending equates to roughly $1 trillion per year. This cut is going to hurt a lot of people. But the people who are most hurt will be those lobbyists and contractors who live in the suburbs of Washington DC. These people are the masters of Washington, and, by extension, America.

Obama deficit spent $9.35 trillion dollars during his presidency, or $75,000 per US household. Where did this money go? Has every household in America received a check for $75,000? I don't think so. Since Bill Clinton left office, he is some $150,000,000 richer. Al Gore is $200,000,000 richer. How much have Bush, Cheney, and others made? How much has been made by the numerous senators and congressmen? How much have their friends and relatives made?

What if Trump turns off the tap?

Do these protesters know what is really going on in Washington? No, they don't. In reality, they know very little. As Hitler said before he became chancellor "what a wonderful thing for rulers that men are stupid." People want to believe, Washington and it's minions take advantage of this need to believe.

I'm curious, how do these protests compare in size to the ones launched by the right wing after Obama was elected? Did they burn more cars, break more windows, injure more police?

I thought "fascists" were people who wore black, covered their faces, destroyed public property, and acted like thugs. Maybe I'm wrong though... to quote Ed Morrisey:

Americans who feel that they've been let down by the system have a very legitimate complaint. You've got to love the moon logic that Trump's volunteer surrogates jump through to defend their guy. Which do you think is the more plausible situation:

(A) Women are sufficiently upset by a President who tries to normalize sexual denigration of women and sexual assault against women that they decided to march against him, or,

(B) An enormous conspiracy controls the government, somehow couldn't prevent Trump's campaign, but can get millions of women around the country to spontaneously form marching groups on the same day.

If you think (B) is the more plausible scenario even though you can literally walk up to women and ask them why they marched, you may be a Trumpster.

Let me fix that for you:

Illegal immigrants

They broke the laws of this country to enter, then stay. They should be deported. People who followed the rules, like my grandparents, deserve to be ahead of anyone who broke our immigration laws - performing illegal acts. The people who don't understand this boggle my mind. If it were me, I'd block their family members from ever entering the country for any reason too - even for vacation.

As they are being deported, they should be treated with respect. Perhaps Japan would like to provide these people with a new start in life?

I'm not suggesting these hardworking people are terrible, just they broke an immigration law and they KNEW IT. Breaking laws needs to have repercussions. When I get caught speeding and get a ticket, I expect all the things the police and courts do to happen. It wouldn't be "fair" otherwise. I thought the USA tried to be "fair" whenever possible.
