Never seen a 1,000 dollar bill but wouldn't mind catching one.

Are there any $1,000 USD bills still left in circulation??I thought the CIA, FBI and DEA had already taken them out.

It has got to mean 1000 one dollar bills

Yes, I read it as 1000 dollar bills after he said it was his last $1000.
If he wants to throw his money away why stop him?

who would accept a one-thousand-dollar bill?

Good thing there wasn't a dangerous stampede.

Some people do not trust credit cards, ATM cards and use $1,000 paper money. New $`,1,000 bill has two color lines. It is easier to pay paper money than ATM in many stores. If you have a bank account, you can get $1,000 paper money easier than a wad of small denomination paper money.

Fun Fact Time: The U.S. Treasury Department *(which regulates the circulation of U.S. currency, and not the CIA, FBI, or DEA)* immediately stopped issuing all U.S. notes greater than $100 into general circulation in 1969. The last $1,000 note to be printed, however, was back in 1945.
As of May, 2009, only 165,372 $1000 notes are known to still exist. Yes, they are still completely legal tender and can be used to buy things, but most of the surviving notes are in the hands of collectors who would likely shudder at the thought.

Just in case it was not clear already, the man was throwing $1 bills and he threw $1,000 worth of them:

Yeah. All this discussion about "$1,000 bills" could have been avoided if the original article had used "1,000 $1 bills" instead of "1,000 dollar bills".
