"grotesque and absurd" - she said it herself.

She might as well start packing her bags. The immigrant problem in Germany was showcased by the right in the American election; I can't imagine what the backlash is going to be on her home turf.

I guess Merkel is benefiting from a six-party system.

Say what you want this is a remarkable achievement in today's world.
"And France is facing a presidential poll in May that could see far-right candidate Marine Le Pen snatch victory."
Very unlikely now that Sarkozy is out of the presidential race. MLP is likely to face either Francois Fillon (right) or Alain Juppe (centre right) at the 2nd rd and both are 'right enough' to prevent MLP from taking over the reins of the country.
Only other possibility would be for both Juppe and Fillon to be at first round, end up 3rd and 4th behind MLP and the socialist candidate. A MLP vs Left would be very 'interesting'! (It would divide the nation big time)

More than half of the electorate—55 percent—want Merkel to stay in office, up from 42 percent in August, a poll for Bild am Sonntag newspaper showed
Polling forecast? ...Do me at favor, more than whiff of spinning forecasting polling averages.
RCL had Clinton between a 2 to12 point lead from the14 day run up to election day. The modelling behind the margin of error/confidence interval reflected some elements within the survey polling displaying a high percentage of confidence interval.
In turn corresponding to higher standard deviations. So much larger margins of error in the support for Clinton. On the basis of single polls showing a two-point lead, RCL polling average was unintentionally skewed. Both Clinton and Trump could actually have be tied, or significantly, with a high standard deviation level, Trump could have been in the lead.
All this on the back of Clinton campaign failing to secure 5.5 million votes that previously swept Obama in to office.
The fundamentals boil down to the peoples of Europe wanting policies that represent/respects freedom and equality. A fair level playing field to succeed, irrespective of class, etc, etc, etc......... All from government genuinely fulfills this belief. This is not the case by any stretch of the imagination being offered by the current incompetent political elite shower of whatever, suffering from sticky chair syndrome.
In the case of The President European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker, and European Parliament President Martin Schulz there was never a ballot paper with their name on it to start with.

Even if the polls are wrong, the opposition is split up among the five next-highest parties plus 'Other'.

The rise of the populist right in Europe is in direct confrontation of the failure of the EU commission and Chancellor Angela Merkel in particular to take note of the democratic will of the people.
Migrants linked to 69,000 would-be or actual crimes in Germany in first three months of 2016: police
http://www.reuters.com/article/us-europe-migrants-germany-crime-idUSKCN0YT28V
These number have raisin to a reported 142,000......
There is little or no attempt to integrate, just harboring a festering hatred for our western culture, freedoms and values, these migrants are merchants of misery deciding to fight against every principal of European culture.
Chancellor Angela Merkel, Juncker, and Schulz open door policy have resulted in people smugglers sailing hundreds of thousands in inflatable dinghies ,many to women and children to drown washed up on beaches.
Add to this a refusal to change economic course and release Southern Europe from the straitjacket of the single currency.
Don't blame the rise of rightest populism when the failures are far closer to home.

correct, Merkel is destryoing germany and europe with it. the irony is she's gunning for the nobel peace prize and will probably get it, given thedegree to which the nobel prizes have degenerated over the years.

The Germans have had one or two totally crazy leaders in the last 100 years, haven't they?

Shock statistics:
The Riesling❗️
itsonlyrocknroll
Hi SenseNotSoCommon, 142,000 reported in the Daily Mail and quoted from a report by the Gladstone institute can be a tad misleading as Frontex has not broken down board to board crime stats.....The Mail on line is right of center, so commentators should keep that in mind.
Angela Merkel under more pressure over refugee policy as it is revealed migrants committed 142,500 crimes in Germany during the first six months of 2016

unfortunately, admitting the reality would fracture the lefties self-image and fake world view. the germans themselves along with much of the rest of western europe have been conditioned for decades to believe in this same fake chimera.

She wasn't satisfied with the damaged already she has done to EU and Germany.

Damned decent of you as always, @itsonlyrocknroll
You'll find it's the Gatestone Institute, (the Gladstone is a medical body) chaired by none other than John Bolton. The report itself is by Soeren Kern, who also wrote in 2012 of Muslim-only 'no-go zones' across Europe. Lest David Cameron choke on his porridge, let's treat it (the hyperbole-prone source, not the porridge) with a pinch of salt.

(The Riesling quip, BTW, was a light-hearted retort to the 'raisin' typo). Stay well and keep rocking!

The Mail links to the Gatestone report, and the Gatestone report provides a link to the reference for the 142,500 figure, a German government report:
https://www.bmi.bund.de/SharedDocs/Downloads/DE/Nachrichten/Kurzmeldungen/kernaussagen-kriminalitaet-im-kontext-von-zuwanderung.pdf;jsessionid=015734B25B02BE09A732D5013B5B7E33.2_cid364?__blob=publicationFile
The report says immigrant crime is down over the 6-month period, I guess that means there was a surge in the last half of 2015 followed by a crackdown post-Cologne. Did not check to see if any seasonality is involved.
albaleo
And we ask ourselves, is that high or low? While being right of center, the Daily Mail tends to cater to those who enjoy being angry all the time (Sometime nicknamed "The Daily Rage"). It doesn't take long to find another article that is less inflamed.

No doubt this publication caters to gentle snowflakes. I guess there's a truth for everybody.
