Ohio firewall is too high for Romney to break.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Saw the First Lady at school today! It was exciting! She is great! Also got a kick out of VP Biden's comment about this being Rmoney's favorite time of the year. ('cause he gets to turn back the clock!) Getting down to the nitty-gritty! Hey guys, if you haven't already done so, GET OUT AND VOTE !

Oh yeah, FORWARD !

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Romney, in just a few days it will be game over and we can stop listening to your endless flip flopping, outright lies, self-assured backwardness and above all, your 19th century view for America.

Now if, in some horrific nightmare, Romney and Ryan succeed in winning we will witness the collective time travel of the US from 2012 to 1812, the first true evidence of time travel. And sadly the undoing of generations of hard work to gain the rights and equality that women, minorities and people living alternative lifestyles have fought so bravely to achieve.

5 ( +9 / -4 )

Seems a foregone conclusion that Obama will win based on the current info we have. Good news for the USA.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Real Change! Not more of the same, please!

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

"the jobless rate ticked up to 7.9% from 7.8% - mainly because more people jumped back into the search for work"

How dare these people jump back into the search for work! They must be trying to make the president look bad!

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

Obama: "Voting is the best revenge."

What kind of negative message is THAT, Mr. President?

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

Real Change! Not more of the same, please!i

Your statement (actually Romney's) " Not more the same" links to my question listed below:

1)How much debt did Obama inherite from Bush when he took office? 2) How much debt do we have now? 3)How did Obama have to spend that money?

I have asked the same questions over and over, but no response from you. Sounds like you are beating drums with lots of holes. Classic!!

3 ( +4 / -1 )

"Obama's poor performance in the first presidential debate"

And his poor performance as president.

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

The latest polls have Romney in a virtual tie wirth Obama in Pennsyvania, even with 1.1 million more registered Democrats. How is this possible?

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

We can only hope that there are enough voters left who don't want this country to be like Greece or Spain.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

The state of Ohio has a total of 88 counties.

82 counties are strongly supported by auto industry.

One out of five Ohio voters are working for auto industry.

Obama is leading Romney by at least 5 points as of today.

More than 42% have already casted their votes.

It is more than unlikely Romney will take over Ohio.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Oh, global, please tell us why Obama ballooned the debt another $5 trillion already!

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Serrano - Real Change! Not more of the same, please!"

Mitt's backward views mean taking the country backward. Was the 18th century that good?

Also, why do you and other conservatives want to repress women's rights?

Ah  - no need to answer - I get it: women had almost  zero rights in the 18th century. That's what you and other conservatives want and why you don't have any problems with it.

Makes perfect sense. Sadly.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

Romney is within striking distance in several other battleground/swing states that would give him the stupid electoral votes without Ohio's stupid electoral votes.

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

SerranoNov. 04, 2012 - 10:59AM JST

Oh, global, please tell us why Obama ballooned the debt another $5 trillion already!

1)Two wars We are spending 32 billions a week for wars since war started.

2) Bush tax break for the riches still continues until end of 2012. This tax break has two open ends. When balancing budget you need to close one side by spending cut.

3)Wall Street financial bail out.

4)American Recpvery Act

5)Auto bailout

6) Unemployment extension and some financial help for COBRA recipients

7)Interest

Obama: "Voting is the best revenge."

What kind of negative message is THAT, Mr. President?

Serrano, you have been watching FAX news too much too long. I can almost predict everyday what you would say in advance. You probably did not know that I watch FAX to read GOP's political strategy compared to the mainstreet media.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

Obama: "Voting is the best revenge."

What kind of negative message is THAT, Mr. President?

One that similar to 2010, will work both ways, Serrano.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

We can only hope that there are enough voters left who don't want America to become like 18th century England and the fun place that was, especially for women.

Damn, too late - Serrano's leading the charge forward - ehhrr - backward into that period.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Was reading news from back home today - political commentators are just floored that abortion is way up there as an important issue In the US election.

Abortion went off the table as an election issue in my country more than a decade ago.

One political writer described America as having borders of sanity on the east and west and an asylum inbetween.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

More hyperbole and desperate personal attacks from the strident left. More of the same on every thread. Attack the man, not the belief. Disappointing but not surprising.

I'm curious which rights you think Romney will deny to women, especially enough to turn the clock back by 200 years. The right to work? Vote? Choose their spouse? Send their kids to school?

Surely you can't mean contraception. That's not a "right". They only want it to be a private matter, not one funded by the public.

Ditto for abortion. BOTH parties have their loonie side on this issue. Some on the left favor infanticide up to the moment of birth. Some on the right favor the unborn above all others. The reality is somewhere in the middle, as is the public.

@globalwatcher

Those are all not necessities. They were choices by the President. He could have decided not to spend it. HE'S the boss, not the shambling spectre of the previous president. I mean, really, "He made me do it" isn't an excuse you would accept from a child, let alone a President.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

Serrano - is it true you watch Fox News?

Really?

If you think Fox News disseminates news - hold it right there - they don't. Fox spreads lies, hate speech and vile racist invective - let's put the notion that Fox is somehow a "news organization" to bed right now.

I remember when Fox got busted I think during the 2008 campaign - they showed what they said was a McCain campaign rally and the skies over it were cloudy. Turns out the actual campaign had clear blue skies and fewer people than Fox stated.

Fox had their sorry arses busted but never changed their dishonest practices.

I'm sure that's why Fox is so successful - they know their mainstream audience is simply too clueless and intellectually lazy to bother doing any fact-checking.

Fox in any serious country would have either been sued out of existence or branded as hate speech and shut down years ago.

In America? It's top rating.

Serrano, please don't tell us you actually get your news from Fox.....

1 ( +4 / -3 )

VRWC - "Attack the man, not the belief"

For any sane candidate, they would be one and the same.

For Mitt Romney, it's impossible. Which 'belief' to target? He's had so many.  Which position is Mitt holding today? Will he hold a different position tomorrow?

It's only taken him a week to backtack on FEMA.

What's he going to do a U-turn on next?

Climate change?

How you guys can support such a slithery chameleon is beyond me.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

you have been watching FAX news

I have just realized my typo, not FAX new, I meant Fox news. I am glad I did not say something else Fu** news.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

"How you guys can support such a slithery chameleon is beyond me."

Allow me to answer my own question.

Most conservatives don't like or support Romney at all, at least not in the usual sense of the word.

It's just that they cannot handle a black man in the White House and will come up with every thinly veiled excuse to make people think that isn't true.

This is about attitudes. And conservatives - at least on this one - are coherent.

They want  to repress the rights of their own women to choose.

Hello 18th century.

They only want whites in the White House - anyone of color is not acceptable.

Again, hello 18th century.

Obama has shown his leadersip skill by demonstrating he takes responsibility to every decision he makes.

"As long as I am a commander in Chief..............I understand the consequence of every decision I make.....I may not be a perfect president, and you may not agree with me for every decison I make.....But you know what I stand, you know what I mean. I tell you what I mean........and I mean it."

You probably did not know this but he took two big risks before this election: Osama Bin Laden KILLED and Auto industry ALIVE.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

I'd be a little more worried if you had written that Romney will win Ohio. As this isn't the case, the election is over already so it's time to get over it. Hoping against hope won't work.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Sail - "Pathetic, just pathetic is all I can say."

Glad you agree. A bit more inclusiveness would give the GOP a lot more leverage, enough to perhaps even win

I think Colin Powell's former chief of staff retired Army Col. and REPUBLICAN Lawrence Wilkerson said it best on Friday last week: “My party, unfortunately, is the bastion of those people -- not all of them, but most of them -- who are still basing their positions on race. Let me just be candid: My party is full of racists, and the real reason a considerable portion of my party wants President Obama out of the White House has nothing to do with the content of his character, nothing to do with his competence as commander-in-chief and president, and everything to do with the color of his skin, and that's despicable.”

Sail, that's a former top level REPUBLICAN speaking.

Care to comment?

3 ( +4 / -1 )

@ss3 Again with the unfounded attacks and demagoguery. If you have any evidence to back up your lies, feel free to produce it. Otherwise, pipe down.

@GW

IF the PResident wanted to take responsibility, he would resign. He promised a lower deficit and 6% unemployment, or he would be a one term president. If he were a man of his word, he would quit.

Bin Laden dead? Great. Please also note that VP Biden, purportedly the experienced man in foreign policy. was AGAINST the mission. The auto industry would be alive with or without government money. In the long run, without would be better.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Sail, I'll help you:

Excuse #1: Like Chris Christie, retired Army Col. Lawrence Wilkerson is a 'traitor'?

Excuse #2: You - somehow - know more than retired Army Col. Lawrence Wilkerson about the inner workings of the GOP?

Is this how it's going to go?

VRWC - "The auto industry would be alive with or without government money. "

Rubbish. Both companies were heading for bankruptcy.

88,000 direct GM jobs & more than a million downstream jobs would have disappeared.

And that's just GM.

Do you think letting them all go - as Mitt wanted - would have been good for America?

You've got some explaining to do.

Thanks for pointing that out.

Your president went against the advice of not only VP Biden but a whole string of top advisors, including military.

And yet, who has history proven to be right?

Your president, Barack Hussein Obama.

That's HUGE credit to the guy considering he's got zero military experience.

And yet conservatives like yourself STILL complain.

Have you got nothing better to do with your time???

Along with Obama's “not just a choice between two candidates or two parties, it’s a choice between two different visions for America” comment in Ohio, he also said this at that stop:

Who is this guy, Leon Trotsky?

Fortunately, that statement is now a PAC ad runnning on TV here in the states during NFL football games this weekend.

Sail, if I was a conservative with a conscience, I'd stop and look long and hard at why a former too level member of my own party would be motivated to label that very party as a party full of rackets.

If I wasn't that type of conservative, of course, I could just slam him.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

He promised a lower deficit

Deficit or debt? I do not know how to respond to you. There is a difference.

6% unemployment

Do you realize he is doing a damn good job after what we went through in 2008? We were ready to go off the cliff in brink of eyes. We were ready to go down to the 2nd Great Depression in history. If we went into the depression , unemployment would be 25% today and we tanked all other countries along with us.

Furthermore, Obama has created over 5.5 million jobs since he took office, and jobs just created for thFe past 6 months have already surpassed what Bush had done in 8 years. Give him a credit.

Bin Laden dead? Great. Please also note that VP Biden, purportedly the experienced man in foreign policy. was AGAINST the mission.

This is exactly I meant in my previous post. Obama took a risk. He understood the consequence if he failed. He is a commander in chief of decision maker. He was not timid.

The auto industry would be alive with or without government money

No without government help, it was ready to go off the cliff. No investment bankers in the Wall Street were willing to loan the money to Auto Industry. Well, today all these people's jobs were saved. These workers did not have to file personal bankruptcy, no mortgage foreclosures, hot meals on table, warm place to sleep. That is good. Furthermore, these auto loans were completely paid off. All US tax payers are making money on this investment. Auto industry is completely out of recession, and they are adding more shifts in manufacturing plants.

I do not know why you are so bitter on everything What Obama accomplished. Some just do not like him because he is black. I believe people should be judged by their character, not by a color of skin.

Well, some Americans rather want to watch Fox News propaganda machine only among over 100 choices. If the truth is told, they get very offensive and angry.

Chinese army is the best in brainwashing and Fox news is using the same military brainwashing strategy. What do we do before becoming a victim? Connecting ourself to a variety of media sources is a key. Chinese do not have this previledge as well as we do.

Sushi,

Colin Powell's former chief of staff retired Army Col. and REPUBLICAN **Lawrence Wilkerson

Colin Powell endorsed Obama in 2008 and re-endorsed him now. Colin Powell has come under criticism for that endorsement, as it does not seem to based on any logic a prominent Republican would hold, other than they both share the same common ethnic background. Lawrence Wilkerson is his former LOYAL Chief of Staff and has defended Colin Powell. It is obvious that his loyalities lies with Colin Powell. Your screaming RACIST is sad and its pathetic, just as Pathetic as Lawrence Wilkerson's use of race to deflect from Colin Powell's unfortunate decision to endorse Obama yet again after 4 years of failure.

Now your turn: Explain to me why Mia Love is up 12 points in the Lily white Red State of Utah if RACISM is really a factor.

Mia Love leads incumbent Rep. Jim Matheson (D-Utah) by double digits in the race to represent Utah’s newly drawn 4th congressional district, according to a new poll.

Love, the mayor of Saratoga Springs, is ahead of Matheson 52-40 percent in a Salt Lake Tribune poll released overnight.

Not at all. I would guess Wilkerson knows a heck of a lot more about the inner workings of the GOP than you do.  And he likely had to put up with hidden racism aimed at Gen. Powell when the latter was Sec. State.

What would you know about ANY of that?

No, sorry, I'm going with Wilkerson. I really doubt you know anything he doesn't - sorry.

In fact, your attempt to deflect from this racism is only  helping ensure Romney loses next Tuesday.

Thanks. :-)

Sail, about Mia Love - I'm not following that narrative, so sorry - can't comment.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Similar ideologies aside, I think it is significant that Bill Clinton, the last president to preside over a prosperous  economy, is shouting himself hourse in support of president Obama.

Meanwhile, Romney, the Failure's Failure, is doing nothing but push bUsh 2 on steroids.

We're seeing a parallel dynamic occurring: successful president supporting current president.

Huge failure president GWB doesn't even show his face in support of GOP candidate Romney who just wants to re-run GWB's proven failed policies.

And all those who want America to fail again are supporting Romney.

All I can ask is: WHY?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Not at all. I would guess Wilkerson knows a heck of a lot more about the inner workings of the GOP than you do. And he likely had to put up with hidden racism aimed at Gen. Powell when the latter was Sec. State.

What would you know about ANY of that?

Plenty and it has nothing to do with racism and everything to do with the falling out that Colin Powell and Wilkerson had with the Bush administration over Iraq and the bitterness that left behind. From the Washington Post in 2006:

The split came as both men left the administration -- Powell as secretary of state, Wilkerson as his chief of staff -- after working side by side for 16 years. Wilkerson, a once-loyal Republican with 31 years of Army service, has emerged in recent months as a merciless critic of President Bush and his top people, accusing them of carrying out a reckless foreign policy and imperiling the future of the U.S. military.

"My wife would probably shoot me if I headed to the ballot box with a Republican vote again," he says. "This is not a Republican administration, not in my view. This is a radical administration."

You just backed up my point.

Is a "thank you" in order here?

3 ( +4 / -1 )

"Colin Powell has come under criticism for that endorsement, as it does not seem to based on any logic a prominent Republican would hold"

I suppose that makes sense when you are talking about todays radicozed Republican party that you yourself fail even to admit or recognoze Sail.

Powell himself says he's a Republican of a moderate breed, something he acknowledges rightly is a dying breed currently.

That partisan nose-peg you've been doleurously wearing for these last 6 months feel much better off your nose and relegated to the bin next week ;-) one should neber willingly starve the brain of oxygen.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Thank you. ;)

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Sail, have you bothered to consider why Gen. Powell and Wilkerson fell out with the GWB administration?

Or is it the mere fact that they did more than enough for you to slam them?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Sail, I take it you read widely enough to realize it was only the U.S. and a bunch of countries' leaderships that were coerced or had their political arms twisted that actually supported the U.S. invasion of Iraq?

Gen. Powell was and is an intelligent man.

It's no wonder he didn't fit in with the GOP and decided instead to vote for and endorse Obama.

And you think he's worthy to be slammed because of that? I know you know Powell is a decorated Vietnam war veteran and a retired Chief of Staff.

Someone with your military background slamming him is really out of line, IMO, sorry.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Sail, have you bothered to consider why Gen. Powell and Wilkerson fell out with the GWB administration?

Your point all of this was because of racism, I see you've backed away from that now. Your welcome.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

I suppose that makes sense when you are talking about todays radicozed Republican party that you yourself fail even to admit or recognoze Sail.

So radicalized that they nominated a Mormon from Massachusetts and the former Governor of the Bluest State in the entire USA to run as their Presidential Candidate.

Hmmm, I gather your Romnesia is blurring the piss-poor candidates wheeled out earlier in the year?

Seriously, Newt Gingrich? Rick Santorum?

I said it then and I'll repeat it now - all the serious candidates preferred to sit this one out and let Romney lose.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

For undecided voters: a vote for Romney would be a vote for terrorism.

To put it another way, the GOP say, "Nice country. It'd be terrible if something happened to it."

Several have discussed this previously; Chait has a good look at this here: http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2012/11/romneys-closing-argument-threats-are-made.html

There was talk on the site the other day about differences between Democratic and Republican obstructionism, but it really boils down to this: Democrats will obstruct what they consider intrusions over their red lines, such as privatizing Social Security or dismantling the ACA; Republicans will obstruct anything the second Obama comes out in support of it - even if the idea was Republican-generated in the first place (see: ACA).

Chiat correctly highlights Romney's curious use of the passive in this line of his closing speech: “The debt ceiling will come up again, and shutdown and default will be threatened, chilling the economy.” Threatened, of course, by GOP members in the House, abetted by their cohorts in the Senate. In other words, the only shield Americans have against GOP obstructionism so severe as to threaten the American economy itself is capitulation: Romney will give them what they want, so they will not carry out their desperate acts. Again, a vote for Romney would be a vote for terrorism.

Chait goes on to quote from David Frum, a well-known conservative columnist, as he advocates for voting Romney; I'll post it below for convenience:

The congressional Republicans have shown themselves a destructive and irrational force in American politics. But we won't reform the congressional GOP by re-electing President Obama. If anything, an Obama re-election will not only aggravate the extremism of the congressional GOP, but also empower them: an Obama re-election raises the odds in favor of big sixth-year sweep for the congressional GOP - and very possibly a seventh-year impeachment. A Romney election will at least discourage the congressional GOP from deliberately pushing the US into recession in 2013.

So there you have it: Frum advocates capitulation - and, implicitly, begs that you trust that the Romney you are voting for is a rational Romney and not one in the pocket of the very group he rails against, a dubious assertion in itself.

My my, the GOP certainly has gotten itself into a pickle. Will it indeed be able to sustain Tea Party obstructionism for four more years? I am not one to negotiate with terrorists; Frum seems to think a little rope will pacify them, but even a short glance at their record shows their insatiable thirst for what they see as somehow divine. So, no, Frum is wrong: Romney may smooth things but to a path America really does not want to go. An Obama presidency will be more rocky, but rocks against the head are exactly what the GOP needs now to sort itself out.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

"A Romney election will at least discourage the congressional GOP from deliberately pushing the US into recession in 2013."

Yup. If Obama is reelected the first thing the GOP will be doing is bringing America to he brink again, just like they did in 2011, simply (you got it), because they can.

These people should be in the dock for treason, not in political positions of power. Another reason to vote for Obama.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Laguna

Who give a sh*t about undecided voters? Not me. Team Democrat has persuaded more than 50% in Ohio, and that is game, set and match. Now, it is just a matter of how big a win we're gonna get.

So, about those undecideds -- if they are actually undecided (stuoopid) as opposed to holding their cards close to their chest (respectable) than this is the dope:

If they are holding their cards, that means they have decided: meaning, if they've chosen Obama, good on 'sm; if they've chosen Rmoney, f&ck 'em.

Those who are actually undecided, i.e thick-as-a-brick, will break 2/3rds at least for the winner. It goes to human psychology. Most like to be on the ass-kicker side. The others like to swim agains the stream. on Principle.

Meaning: the way to get those so-called undecideds is to demonstrate FOREGONE VICTORY.

Good grief, between Obama and Romney, you think Romney is dodgy? OK, Romney is no Ronald Reagan, but Obama - whose biggest single positive accomplishment as president has been giving the order to the SEALS to kill Osama bin laden - isn't as dodgy?

NHK News 7 just said Obama and Romney are neck-and-neck. How is this possible? Isn't Barack Obama a great president, and clearly a better choice than Mitt Romney?

Obviously he is, Serrano, yes. Unfortunately, idiots have just as much right to vote as the rest of the population, so Romney's always going to enjoy a fan-base.

Barack Obama is the worst president ever, surpassing Jimmy Carter.

It's imperative that he be denied a second term. A second Obama term will balloon the debt to $20 billion or more.

It will also pretty much gut all the private health insurance in favor of Obamacare. And it goes on, lol.

@Vast Right-Wing Conspirator

You claim that all of the continued financial expenditures were a CHOICE of the president? Are you freaking kidding me? America is not let by a dictatorship, the president doesn't have ultimate power. He can't just say "it will be so" and make it so. You know as well as I do that aside from the laws and regulations that must be upheld, there's also the matter of the republican party deliberately getting in the way of every positive change he tried to make on the matter. As I said, you call that a mere excuse, when in truth it is merely the reality of a democratic government.

How is this possible?

Not sure if this phrase you're repeating is simply a meme of a genuine cry for help - might be both - but here are some demographics regarding Romney supporters that might help:

Unreconstructed Confederates and assorted other racists; Idiots and the inbred (this category may overlap); Ayn Rand devotees and others (Austrian economics?!) substituting ideology for thought; The Catholic Church and evangelical Christians who see government solutions as a threat to their existence; The "Get Off My Lawn" sector, when not utilizing the emergency room in lieu of private insurance (see below*); Plutocrats or wannabes who see extra bucks in a Romney government.

Seems there are almost enough occupying the above categories to push Romney close to 50%. That is how it is possible.

It will also pretty much gut all the private health insurance in favor of Obamacare.

*Obamacare requires all Americans to purchase PRIVATE health insurance. PRIVATE health insurance companies are salivating. They will make much money.

I am not sure which category of the above you place yourself in, Serrano, but I can guess. Good luck with another four years in the wilderness; I hear it is good for soul-searching.

@jump;

Obama was the president. He signs the bills. His party controlled congress. He decided. He knew exactly what he was getting into and still promised . As he said in Feb of 2009, "Today I am pledging to cut the deficit we inherited in half by the end of my first term in office."

Nobody to blame but himself.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Sail, logical thought does not require links. VRWC - it might have been a little over the top, but that does not make it false. If you want to move forward, answer me this:

"Today I am pledging to cut the deficit we inherited in half by the end of my first term in office."

Romney pledges to increase Pentagon spending and hold steady or reduce taxes while balancing the budget. Do you agree that this is possible? If so, which of the above-mentioned groups do you place yourself in?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

It's necessary for progressives to demonize those who dare to disagree, call them names, and belittle them.

Thank God the tea party types took over the republican party. That meant only the loons would run for President for the republican party. Romney has turned out to be no better than Cain or Perry.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

It remains to be seen if Romney can keep his word. I hope he can. What I DO know is that Obama failed to keep his.

As for the former - Hah! - which word would that be?

As for the latter, Obama has cut the long-term deficit more than any president in recent history. You surely know that a budget is composed of revenue and expenditures; expenditures are composed of short-term "stimulus" types and long-term obligations. The deficit that you see is a result of plunging revenues and accompanying short-term stimulus expenditure; Obama has succeeded in producing a long-term budget with lower federal growth than even Reagan managed.

Google it. It is true.

Sail - "So radicalized that they nominated a Mormon from Massachusetts and the former Governor of the Bluest State in the entire USA to run as their Presidential Candidate."

You still don't understand, do you?

The only reason Mitt won the nomination is because his opponents either imploded under the weight of their own stupidity (Bachmann and Perry) and highjinks (Cain), or simply didn't have the financial firepower to stay in the race with Romney (Newt).

The GOP have next to no genuine "like" for Romney at all. That much has been obvious for months, especially when you look at how "support" for him was tepid at best.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Republicans fare substantially better than Democrats on several questions in the survey, as is typically the case in surveys about political knowledge.

I took the survey myself and scored in the top section of their sample audience, before reading the other details. Interesting in that at no time was I asked for my political affiliation. Past surveys may have asked for it, however.

But trying to conclude that the surveys represent any hard and fast conclusions as to knowledge are specious at best. For example, Pew states that Republicans outscore Democrats by 30 percentage points on the area of "which party is generally more supportive of reducing the size of federal government." A Republican taking the survey will have no problem answering their party because they actually answer it in terms of what Republicans preach, rather than what they actually do.

A Democrat, however, would look back at the Clinton years -- when the size of government was reduced -- and the Bush years -- when the federal government expanded again, and rightfully conclude that it was his/her party that accomplished it. Especially when one considers how many Democrats want to cut one of the largest segments of the federal government -- the defense budget -- there is a lot of justification for a Democrat answering the question in favor of his/her party.

I fail to see much difference between what you say the rude left are doing and posts like this. Demonizing? You make progressives sound like, given half the chance, they'd be setting up Thought Police and carting capitalist imperialist traitors off to the Ministry of Love for a good seeing to in Room 101.

Now your turn: Explain to me why Mia Love is up 12 points in the Lily white Red State of Utah if RACISM is really a factor.

Ludmya (Ludmilla stylized) Bourdeau -- aka Mia Love -- is a member of that select group of descendants from Africa who whites like to trot out to play their "Get-Out-of-Racist-Jail-Free" cards. She has publicly announced that, if she wins, she's going to join the Congressional Black Caucus and bring it down from the inside.

There's a lot of white folks -- Republicans mainly, these days -- who purely love to hear that kind of talk from a person of color. Would a white supremacist like to "bring down" the Congressional Black Caucus?

They can't simply admit that those who don't agree with them are good people. Wrong (in their mind), but good people.

Among the conservative ranks, plenty of tares have been sown along with the wheat. One might say the same of liberals, but there is a big difference that is clearly revealed in one characteristic: the willingness to reach a good-faith compromise.

To the extent that a member of either side regards compromise as a dirty word or as "appeasement," you know there is pure evil at work.

One of the telling moments came during a Republican candidates' debate earlier this year: When asked if they would be willing to accept a budget deal that would trade ten dollars in cuts for one dollar in tax increases, not a single Republican candidate would admit to taking it.

Pure evil.

This is the same bunch who want to:

Restrict their own women's rights

Enrich the 1% at the sake of the poor

Gut services for the middle class and poor to spend more money on ships and weapons systems America doesn't need (someone tell me why USAF still needs long-range bomber squadrons again?)

Work steadfastly to pass legislation to make it more difficult for minorities to vote, in the name of "voter fraud", which has repeatedly been shown to be bogus.

NOT support bills supplying spending on: American infrastructure, American jobs and American technology.

I've said it before, I'll say it again: American conservatives are the most anti-American bunch out there.

If Obama wins re-election, the idea of 'America' will come to an end. That is a sad but true fact of the matter. America is sitting on the precipice of financial ruin because it has turned it's back on it's Founding principles for decades. Obama is unwilling and unable to stop spending or reform government social programs so they are sustainable for the future. Obama is committed to more social spending at ever greater levels and has hot shown any flexibility on this point. More critically he has been unable to encourage an economy or raise government revenues to support this level of spending. The fact that America's elected representatives in Congress are unwilling to do Obama's bidding by raising taxes or adapt to Obama's policies to support his vision is no excuse for bankrupting the country.

America is polarized around two visions of civic life. One believes in Obama's view that government is the central animating force in the life of it's citizens (see the Life of Julia commercial). The other is the traditional American view that puts the dreams of each individual and freedom to achieve them as central to the role of government. Obama's view is the one that ends in the financial calamity we are seeing in Greece and Europe overall today. It is the view that led to the collapse of the Soviet Union and the despair brought about in Socialist third world nations across the globe over the past 60 years.

Even if Romney wins I don't think that guarantee's America's ability to avoid a rapid decline over the coming decades. It will at least give America a chance of avoiding it. An Obama victory makes it a certainty.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

@serrano "jumpultimatestars is right, the increased gov't debt is the fault of the obstructionist Republicans still left in Congress, lol."

0 ( +2 / -2 )

This was from Michael Barone yesterday, the entertaining author, commentator and walking encyclopedia of political history that can walk through election maps in amazing detail, down to the last precinct-more than any other American (probably than any other human alive):

Barone said that every pollster that he knows is scared to death that America cannot be polled correctly today. Some fear for their future. Americans are not bound to land lines and so they poll cell phones also but then some of that data is not available. Out of all of the calls that pollsters make... only 9% of the calls that they make are even answered. Of those that do answer, less than seven percent will take the time to answer any polling questions.

He said the polling is missing something that is going on in every place he looks. He said he must rely on all that he has learned over the years and what he knows to be true. He then said he has been in most precincts and counties in the US that set trends and he has met and talked with the people at the local levels in both parties. He has studied their ground games and watched both operations. He extrapolates that up through county and then State and national. He looks at the momentum... where the candidates are campaigning and to who they are campaigning and what they are saying. He says when he does that he comes to a confident conclusion of at least 52-47 300+ EV for Romney.

When pressed for an example of trends not being caught, he pointed to Eastern Ohio and the huge increase in Evangelical and Catholic voters moving firmly to Romney. “They are not looking at them anywhere... they are not polling for them and they are not catching them”.

Come, come now.

No one person who seemingly has spread himself so thinly as Barrone has -- most precincts and counties in the US that set trends? -- can come to any kind of conclusion one can put any confidence in.

You are engaged in wishful thinking at a minimum. When you claim that Michigan might be in play -- you have crossed over into the realm self-delusion and total lack of credibility.

America is polarized around two visions of civic life. One believes in Obama's view that government is the central animating force in the life of it's citizens

Putting aside the completely irrational and potentially mentally unhinged conclusion that America will "come to an end" with the re-election of our current president, the above quote is worthy of comment.

The question is this: What is the institution that unites Americans as Americans, if not their national government? You know -- "We the People" and "E Pluribus Unum". The answer is that there is no alternative entity that unites us.

The other is the traditional American view that puts the dreams of each individual and freedom to achieve them as central to the role of government.

Sadly, the "government" can't act upon the "dreams of each individual." What has ended up happening is that, under conservative administrations, the government has acted upon the fantasies of a very few who already posses most of the wealth, in the false belief that some of it would "trickle down" to the vast majority with far less. The numbers don't lie: wealth distribution has only skewed more sharply in favor of those at the very top.

I happen to care about the vast majority of all Americans and that those at the very top are most able to withstand an apparent injustice than those they look down upon.

"And sadly the undoing of generations of hard work to gain the rights and equality that women, minorities"

Is this something that grass roots lemmings, (i mean campaigners) get told to say by their superiors? Do you actually believe that?

"It's just that they cannot handle a black man in the White House and will come up with every thinly veiled excuse to make people think that isn't"

Not this tired old lie again. Pathetic. Every Republican I know would be happy to have a black Republican President. The attacks about racism are ludicrous. Republicans would have voted for Condi Rice if she were running against Obama. And she's even blacker!

This racist attack is totally unfounded. It's the same pathetic tactic used last time. But I suppose Dems figure that young uneducated people will simply fall for the message and think vote Obama to prove they're not racist. Shameful.

"I can't trust a bloke to relate to the average man when he won't even have a couple of beers."

And this is why Obama will probably win. In depth political analysis by a Democrat!! " Now let me see. This guy drinks beer. The other guy doesn't. hmmm Yep, I guess I should vote for the beer drinker!".

Funny isn't it. When Obama's campaign people had Obama drinking beer on the campaign trail , I thought surely they don't think voters are that dumb. But...there you go. A photo of Obama drinking beer is worth a few percentage points probably.

The world is in serious trouble.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Spoken like a veteran Obama campaigner. I think you forgot "Yes we can". or should that be "We thought he could"

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

yabits:

Putting aside the completely irrational and potentially mentally unhinged conclusion that America will "come to an end" with the re-election of our current president, the above quote is worthy of comment.

Look, it's fine that you want to slam my opinion but don't quote me out of context. I didn't say that America would 'come to an end'. I said the 'idea of America' will come to an end; and in many ways it already has. Try working on your reading comprehension.

Obama's extreme Liberalism is destroying the countries Founding principles. His industrial policy in energy and manufacturing is corrupt. When a president picks winners and losers, we will all end up losing. When Obama decides who is a favored group of people instead of treating everyone the same, we all will end up losing. I don't want Obama deciding what I can and can't have in life. I don't want Obama telling me how much income I can make and redistributing what he thinks I don't deserve. I really resent the huge debt that he has accrued and has baked into the national budget (oh, and yes I resent the huge debt that his predecessors have left as well).

Obama is an extremely divisive president and the nation is more polarized now then at any other time in American history.

Sadly, the "government" can't act upon the "dreams of each individual."

The government should never try to interfere with the aspirations of it's citizens.

What has ended up happening is that, under conservative administrations, the government has acted upon the fantasies of a very few who already posses most of the wealth, in the false belief that some of it would "trickle down" to the vast majority with far less.

I am not wealthy and I believe that under Obama, trickle down government will impoverish everyone. I don't think that Republican governments have been very good at crony capitalism either (I'm not a Republican by the way). However, Obama has his own fantasies of enriching his own set of friends in the solar industry and auto unions.

If Obama wins, then his policies may become irrevisible. If that occurs, America will go under financially - the debt and annual deficit just aren't sustainable. When the reckoning comes, there will be rioting in the streets just like in Greece. Liberals / socialists never learn that money doesn't grow on trees and that without wealth, you will not have much of a country to run.

This is not about what Bourdeau-Love needs or requires -- but about what certain whites require. I'm sure that some of those "lily whites" salivate at the thought of her trying to bring down the Congressional Black Caucus from the inside -- knowing a white candidate could not attempt the job.

Whose idea of America? The statement makes the presumption that everyone has to have one idea of what America should be, and that idea has to fit the standards of the most conservative and intolerant among us.

Obama is an extremely divisive president and the nation is more polarized now then at any other time in American history.

To the extent that polarization exists, it does because of angry white males. The Democratic electorate far more closely matches the general population of America. In the Republican electorate, white males disproportionately dominate.

LOL!! :-)

I think so

Your team never fails to deliver the good times. :-)

Obama sure knows, that being the brunt of a joke is the Only thing he's good at. I agree with you there.

A win for Obama will be a big win for American women's rights and the need to protect those rights from GOP radical assault.

But Blacks Hispanics can go to hell, right? They are suffering the more than anyone else and this president has done nothing!

Time to send the conservative Christian Taliban back to their caves.

Then that means Atheists are progressive terrorists. :-)

Heh, you've got to love the cute little narrative conservatives keep peddling - the one about how they're all "patriotic" and "love their country" and other illusions like that.

I think most Americans be that conservative, democrat or Repub or Dem, traditionalists, libertarians etc. are all patriots, just that liberals don't know how to run and deal with economics and we are seeing that.

This is the same bunch who want to:

Restrict their own women's rights

Not true, not working.

Enrich the 1% at the sake of the poor

Again, lie, not true

Gut services for the middle class and poor to spend more money on ships and weapons systems America doesn't need (someone tell me why USAF still needs long-range bomber squadrons again?)

Because unlike liberals, conservatives really recognize the difference between good and evil and that there are nations that would hurt us and destroy us if they could, if you don't believe so, then you are sipping from the same Kool aid that Gen. Wesley Clark is drinking.

Work steadfastly to pass legislation to make it more difficult for minorities to vote, in the name of "voter fraud", which has repeatedly been shown to be bogus.

I see, so we should just take a person at their word, whether they are a felon or not. So then why have drivers licenses or a passport?

NOT support bills supplying spending on: American infrastructure, American jobs and American technology.

Nice try, but BOTH parties get a solid grade F! Neither have done anything to repair our crippling infrastructure.

I've said it before, I'll say it again: American conservatives are the most anti-American bunch out there.

You're not even American, why do you care?

Looking forward to reading some counterarguments.

I just did.

Good times. :-)

Once and hopefully when and if Obama is out of office, yes sir!

If you want to talk about vitriol and gutter snipping, liberals have conservatives beat 10-1 easily. Yes, you have idiotic conservatives that have said whacked stuff, but liberals definitely take the cake when it comes to verbal attacks.

Funny, coming from someone who just said liberals don't know the difference between good and evil.

When it comes to countries like Iran, Obama does nothing, when it comes to Russia, Obama talks to Medvedev in a sneaky way not to worry about the missile shield defense, but when it comes to Israel, Obama snubs Netanyahu and insults one of our strongest ally. So yes, liberals don't know the difference between good and evil.

When it comes to countries like Iran, Obama does nothing...

I don't recall the Bush administration's handling of Iran being that much more effective. Maybe Obama wouldn't have to do anything about Iran if it had been.

...when it comes to Russia, Obama talks to Medvedev in a sneaky way not to worry about the missile shield defense...

What was it that happened when Medvedev and Putin went marching through Georgia?

...but when it comes to Israel, Obama snubs Netanyahu and insults one of our strongest ally.

Netanyahu should face up to the fact that without continued American patronage Israel would be well and truly stuffed. Like British prime ministers, he should learn his place.

So yes, liberals don't know the difference between good and evil.

I wouldn't say that was a very wise generalisation to make, given the Republicans' rather long track record of cosying up to some extremely unpleasant people - the Shah of Iran, General Pinochet, Ronald Reagan's pal Ferdinand Marcos, Saddam Hussein (when he was obligingly gassing Iranians) and Osama Bin Laden (when he was obligingly killing Soviets) all spring to mind. And let's not forget that in Israel 47% of those Israeli Jews polled recently would like to see Israeli Arabs subjected to apartheid-style policies (http://www.haaretz.com/news/national/apartheid-without-shame-or-guilt.premium-1.471650), and that when it comes to the Israel-Palestine problem Romney's 'solution' is to do nothing and hope it all somehow works out for the best. But I suppose you think that would be 'good?'

It will be difficult for Obama to lose this. And if he does, it will be a hugely embarrassing loss.

If he can't beat a guy who has been mercilessly ridiculed by the media, the comedy world, and of course Obama's army of internet campaigner zealots, then it will be amazing. Not to mention that being Mormon has been a huge obstacle for many Republicans. The fact that the race is even close should be hard for Obama to take.

Maybe he needs to go back on Letterman and The View...

"Christian Taliban"...?

The left in America has no shame.

This is not about what Bourdeau-Love needs or requires -- but about what certain whites require.

Ummm, that a woman of African American descent needs their votes so they can show that they are racists after all by voting for her to bring down the Congressional Black Caucus.

I got it, thanks Yabits for the "clarification".

They are racists who try to prove they are "color-blind" by trotting out a woman of African descent -- not African-American, as she's a Haitian -- who demonstrates hostility to African-American institutions such as the Congressional Black Caucus. (I contend that wanting to bring something down is demonstrating hostility to it.)

Savvy readers will get the real picture. Thanks for making your display of tokenism so clear.

Apparently your blog name suggests you are a non-American to understand many human rights being involved in this election. Naive and ignorant.

Savvy readers will get that you don't care for Mia Love that much at all. Thanks for making the case for" liberal tolerance" once again for those that disagree with your politics.

Whose idea of America? The statement makes the presumption that everyone has to have one idea of what America should be, and that idea has to fit the standards of the most conservative and intolerant among us.

Well, that pretty much makes my point. Americans used to agree on what their Founding ideals were. Now they don't. Thus, I believe that Obama has polarized America more than any president in modern history. The idea of America is dead. America is split in half - and a house divided will not stand. As for intolerance, it is Obama that wants to regulate every Americans health care, have Julia dependent upon the government from birth to death, and tax ever more of citizens incomes to pay for all of the things he thinks the government should provide. Wouldn't it be nice if all of these mandatory regulations on American's freedom to choose for themselves were optional? I would prefer not to participate in government run health care, or retirement plan, etc. It's fine for those who are able to choose to do so, but I shouldn't be forced to. If a women has a right to abort her baby what can't I have the right to choose my own health care and retirement plan? At least in my case I cannot hurt anyone but myself.

To the extent that polarization exists, it does because of angry white males. The Democratic electorate far more closely matches the general population of America. In the Republican electorate, white males disproportionately dominate.

What angry white males might they be? Bill Clinton, Harry Reid, Al Gore, Joe Biden? Oh, you mean those white males that do not share the same socialist ideology as you! So white men cannot think for themselves, they should believe whatever Obama tells them to believe? I know that Liberals obsess over race but most Conservatives do not. I know I don't. By your logic, I could easily say that Democrats have a hatred for whites, or Christians, or married women because that party is has a disproportionate number of minorities, atheists, and single women. I think everyone would be better off if they stopped looking at people based on their race and see them as unique individuals with a mind and their own aspirations in life. Stop hatin' yabits - people are different - get over it already.

It's a shame that Democrats are so intolerant as to create an exclusive club based on race. There is no room for such racist thinking in modern society.

Well, that pretty much makes my point. Americans used to agree on what their Founding ideals were.

Ever heard of the Civil War? Some agreement. Anyone who knows anything about US history knows that political factions have been going at each other since the founding.

Thus, I believe that Obama has polarized America more than any president in modern history.

It's a laughable belief because it displays so little understanding of reality. I consider Nixon a modern president, and the nation was far more polarized during his time in office. But your statement is revealing. For Obama to have a polarizing effect means that certain people have to demonize in their own imaginations, and not because of anything about the man. If nothing else, President Obama has been conciliatory and more than willing to work with all sides. If anything, he's drawn a lot of criticism from liberals for giving in too much to Republicans.

No, if you're feeling polarized, it's because you want to be.

By your logic, I could easily say that Democrats have a hatred for whites, or Christians, or married women because that party is has a disproportionate number of minorities, atheists, and single women.

Your reaching that conclusion would be not logic, but the opposite. The make-up of the Democrats more closely resembles the general population of the United States today than does the Republicans. We have plenty of whites, Christians, and married women in our ranks. Gays, native Americans, Jews, Hispanics, etc. It is an extremely welcoming tent. Most of all, we welcome moderates -- whom the Republican party seems to be jettisoning quite regularly now.

It's a shame that Democrats are so intolerant as to create an exclusive club based on race. There is no room for such racist thinking in modern society.

Any member of Congress can caucus with the Congressional Black Caucus, and many white, Asian, and Hispanic Democrats often do just that. Calling it an "exclusive club" or "racist" is a falsehood. As a white person, I understand the hostility that the idea of a few African-Americans getting together to caucus over areas of mutual interest and concern engenders in them.

It seems as unless a person of color is willing to make public their hostility towards African-American institutions, as well as their intent to undermine and destroy them -- as this Ludmya Boudreau has -- they will get very little support among the racist conservative whites.

Then why call it the Congressional Black Caucus? Liberals continue to divide America because it is to their political benefit. Hate whites, win power. There is only one public policy that is racist in America today - Affirmative Action. Liberals support it, Conservatives are against it. Racism is racism.
