Jesus. She is never going to get over that one!! A women in HER house, with HER husband, a child with HER husband and he covers it up for ten years. Lying is worse than cheating- for me anyway.

When you decide to be a politician you are a public figure. Arnoldo is just trying to get ahead of the curve to reduce any movie earnings issues right up front by "apologizing". He is the one who made it public. Nobody else.
Zenny11
Kudos to him for making it public and fessing up, takes some big ones to do it.

"Kudos to him for making it public and fessing up, takes some big ones to do it."
Maybe if he had kept his big ones in his pants he wouldnt have needed to fess up.
Zenny11
So what, things happen. But few people are willing to fess up to their short-comings. just human nature I guess.
yanee
Yes, things just happen...give 'em a free pass and keep holding him in high regard! A good way to teach the children...As long as you fess up you can do anything...even sodomize your maid or get her pregnant as long as your Anrie or the head of the IMF.
yabits
Kind of hard to hide short-comings when they get past the age of 10.
lovejapan21
Who wants to bet shes not the first. It could b another tiger...yanee, good point.
Molenir
I stopped holding him in high regard, when he switched to supporting job destroying green energy, and caved to the left on everything leaving Kalifornia a bigger mess then every.
Laguna
Big chance is he 'fessed because it was already known within his circle and thus destined to come out eventually anyway. Mah, it doesn't take away from his achievements but certainly won't add to his legacy (popularity-wise, not population-wise); also, at least changing the Constitution to allow foreigner-born citizens to be president can be put on ice for the time being.
hatsoff
Agree with Laguna, it's probably a pre-emptive move. And for the past ten years the other woman's husband has believed the child to be his own. Now the cat is out of the bag, and that's probably two marriages broken.

If I read this correctly, this sentence:
Is probably correct except the maid's marriage ended long before Arnie made the child public.
If, as some suggest, as long as we apologize then we can do anything - adultery, for example - then Japan is ahead of that curve, eh.
Serrano
This is rather disappointing.

Is anyone actually surprised? Anyone who's been to frat parties and is familiar with jock culture could see this type of thing happening miles away. The French dude just goes to show that the moneyed classes aren't too different when comes to using your position to take advantage of others.

So another Republican has had another illegitimate child. Big deal. Heaps of bastards everyone (and by that I mean out of wedlock kids). In this day and age, I'm not entirely sure why it matters so much; he'll suffer the consequences of his actions in terms of his current marriage, and rightly so. Beyond that, how does it affect politics?
lesgrande
It wouldn't be a big deal if they weren't always the ones harping on about 'family values', and how immoral and loose liberals are.
Laguna
Thinking about it, events probably flowed like this: the staffer conceived and bore the child with Arnie's knowledge; he kept her on the books for another decade to ensure her silence, and she stayed on as long as his star was ascending. Once he peaked, it was her chance for payout; she resigned and demanded the value commensurate with a Schwarzenegger child - probably to the tune of tens of millions. That kind of cash is hard to hide from the wife, and he was forced to come clean with her - this probably happened a year or so ago, while he was still governator. Being adults, they all kept things together until his term ended; Shriver then bolted in disgust and Arnie has to deal with the fallout of this disaster of his own making. The remaining question is the amount of payout to his illegitimate child. Tens of millions, to be sure.

"Beyond that, how does it affect politics?"
Smitty,
Well, if you look at your first sentence, clearly this does. I didn't think Repubs had a monopoly on kiddies out of wedlock, but there ya go....
lesgrande,
"It wouldn't be a big deal if they weren't always the ones harping on about 'family values', and how immoral and loose liberals are."
Bah, this is de nada in comparison with previous recent gay-sex scandals from the "moral" party. You could almost believe Arnie if he said he had a wide stance in the bathroom anyhow.
lesgrande
Yeah, but getting plastered in a club with a bunch of rowdies and getting friendly with fellow men doesn't compare with being fully cognizant and banging someone in your own home under the nose of your wife.

who cares about politicians' sex lives?
Everyone has affairs. Public ppl have more trouble/ worry keeping it confidential. So what?
Good luck to them all whatever they go and do. Maria, Guv, the maid and the kid.
lesgrande
Let me ask you something- do you have affairs with people in your house while you are married to someone else? Got another one for you- Do you like to grope women who are your subordinates at work, and then laugh in their face because you know they can't do anything about it? I couldn't give a rat's ass whether it's about a politician or a homeless guy, simply having affairs (not necessarily a bad thing in all cases) isn't really the point.
octopussy
Arnold won't be lonely.
manfromamerica
Leave it to Party-line Smith to make this a republican thing. Of course forgetting Edwards, Spitzer, McGreevy... I guess cheating on your wife while funneling government dollars to your gay lover is a Democrat thing?
