Apart from the slightly comical exploding turban, it would seem the taliban have spoken in a grave voice.

Another victory. Time for America to go.

Life goes on just not for everyone! Today the mess was sealed from those terrible wrongs from the begining when CIA covert operations against Soviet run afghanistan in 1980s! Nobody can help afghanistan if they refused to help their own and this is how their world works:Assassination!

Time for America to go and what??? Let the Iranians and Pakistanis go hog wild and rebuild AL Qaeda?? Let the Taliban go back to beating women and children in the streets for flying kites?? RIP poor Ex Prez of Afghan

He was more than just a ex president, albeit, unelectected. The guy was the leader of the ruthless Northern Alliance. A killer of Pastuns. If you don't understand this, imagine Mexico, armed gangs everywhere and drugs. The Taliban never "built" Al Quieda, they were created as a result of Bush sending Christian US soldiers to Saudi Arabia, the holy land of Mecca and Medina. Taliban beating women and kids is a gross exaggeration for propaganda purposes. The same can be said about America jailing black people for having a fashion that shows their underwear, or Muslim women fined for wearing their choice of clothing in France. Don't believe the hype. Under the Taliban their was no crime, peace and heroin was banned. Now it resembles Mexico.

Yeah, sure sw. Girls being splashed with acid just because they wanted to go to school is an exaggeration. Where can a get a pair of your rose colored glasses?

??????????????????? Did you honestly think this made sense when you wrote it?

"Under the Taliban their was no crime, peace and heroin was banned. "

I think you'll find they just executed anyone saying the contrary.

" Taliban beating women and kids is a gross exaggeration for propaganda purposes"

The inaccuracy of your claims beggars belief.

Oh, I don't know. Certainly the claim that "under the Taliban, peace was banned" might have some merit. However, I am not sure the poster meant that.

Yes, the US and NATO troops should staying in afghanistan for another 10 years or longer, if there were news of afghan got sprayed with acid for going to school...etc. This will be marked in human history for America's faults of 'Taliban appeasement'! How many troops dying in that country is nothing important, dying in heroic fights is much honourable than line up outside the salvation army for food!

The thing that angers me most about this kind of situation regardless as to whether this former-president was a good person or not, is the fact that the taliban and al-quaida (or w/e terrorist organization likes to inhabit the parts) have been targetting any elected local official that comes their way. Some of the people that become mayors, governers and what have you actually are trying to do whats best for the people in their localities and are sick of the corruption, power struggles etc. Reminds me when I saw a documentary and an Afgani man had to flee his town because he ran for mayor and won, but they kept assassinating anyone that got into a political position and didn't go along with the way the taliban or w/e wanted things to be ran. If the world had no corruption, I wonder just how many wars we could avoid, and other situations we have to make each other miserable.

Afghanistan needs a stable and peaceful government. The Taliban last time around turned out to be even worse than the warlords before them. (No hospitals or doctors for women, etc.)

If the Taliban are to come back in, let us hope that like the IRA in Ireland, some of their members are willing to give mature, humane and responsible governance a try.

Certainly the savage way they are going about regaining power gives me little hope, though.
