“I’m a Muslim, it’s not what media portrays me to be,”

Well, looks like you subsequently provided further fuel to the fire.

When something horrible happens, the natural tendency is to want to think it was for some lesser reason on the evil scale. Unfortunately this one is Jihad -- the full hard other end of the evil scale. That being pure evil.

What do first world countries expect when they allow people from failed states into their countries? Somalia is arguably one of the most violent countries on earth where violence is prevalent! Add to this that most Somalians are Muslim means that they sure aren't going to feel affection for a country which has caused mass disruption to many followers of Islam around the world.

More Jihadis are using blades these days, even in the US. Could be the result of stepped state surveillance on people of a certain creed. Easier to stay under the radar when you buy a knife rather than a gun, like the 9/11 attackers had known.

It is the same in Europe, more terrorists operating alone than 10 years ago, more selective targeting of victims with cruder weapons to avoid detection.(knives and axes but still handguns/bombs). Presumably also for the symbolic value. The knife was a weapon with which the companions of Muhammad were well acquainted.

people of a certain creed

When Trump gets sworn in we can drop the innuendo and go full throttle.

We just need to make sure uneducated, emotional citizens don't force shortsighted policy on us because of this. That's always a danger.

I’m a Muslim, it’s not what media portrays me to be,” he told the newspaper. “But I don’t blame them. It’s the media that put that picture in their heads.”

This complete cognitive dissonance is what is so scary about these terrorists. In several such terrorist incidents, the perps have been on record on law-abiding moderate middle-class guys. How does anyone vet that?

Reminds me of the guy in New York who established a TV network to counter anti-Muslim stereotypes. Then, a little later, he beheaded his wife.

Nutters come from all parts of society but these attacks are only considered to be "terrorism" when it's a Muslim running amok, stabbing and shooting people. If a white person does exactly the same thing it's not terrorism. I cannot understand the difference myself and I expect the distinction is also lost on those being shot.

-2 ( +8 / -10 )

Oooh, Trump is gonna jump on this one.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Maybe because The Daily Beast explains that this attack occurred because the perpetrator was afraid to pray on campus!

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2016/11/28/attack-with-butcher-knife-and-car-injures-several-at-ohio-state-university.html

Ohio State Attacker Described Himself as a ‘Scared’ Muslim

A campus article in a student publication at the beginning of this semester showed that he started complaining about prayer rooms before he was moved in or even settled on campus. His agitation and obsession with Islam would be indicative of a radical rather than a student.

"Do we ban cars now? Of course not because cars don't kill people, people kill people! Do we ban knives now? Of course not because knives don't kill people, people kill people. Do we ban Muslims now?.......Yes of course, because Trump is gonna make America great again!".

Another peaceful Muslim.

What a gift for the Donald. I see lots ,more cops and guns on the streets.

Exactly. Best quote I've read all day. Hat off to you Scrote.

There was a time in the 90's when it was considered terrorism when whites did it.

Here we go again.... now wait for the usual media script. Religion has nothing to with it..... workplace incident.... blame guns/knives/cars..... tiny handful of misunderstanders.... vast peaceful majority.... we must be careful to avoid islamophobia... blame GWB..... did I forget anything?

Moderator: Sorry, no anti-Islamic rants please.

The motive behind the rampage would indicate whether it is considered terrorism or not. If it is associated with ISIS, or with some grudge against the American government, then it is considered terrorism.

If you remember Timothy McVeigh or the Unibomber you would know they were also considered terrorists, though they were white, because of their motives.

"If a white person does exactly the same thing it's not terrorism."

Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev are white.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Sorry to hear this news. I am glad that no innocent people were killed. Ohio State is one excellent university too BTW.

Noliving: There was a time in the 90's when it was considered terrorism when whites did it.

It's still considered terrorism, why not?

Dylan Roof, Charleston shootings, 2015.

Disregard WaPo's convolutions over whether he was a terrorist or not. The WaPo author says to not call it 'terrorism' so we won't admit to Roof he 'scared' us. WaPo author was probably paid for that opinion.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2015/06/19/why-we-shouldnt-call-dylann-roof-a-terrorist/

... And in part it's because a terroristic act, which this was, is treated and identified differently when the actor is a young white man. ... There are no shortage of essays arguing that last point. Here at the Washington Post, Anthea Butler pointed out the disparity between how we -- the media, society -- refer to a Dylann Roof versus, say, the people who attacked the Muhammad cartoon contest in Texas. ...

"Mental illness" no doubt.

"people of a certain creed"

"When Trump gets sworn in we can drop the innuendo and go full throttle."

One of the reasons contributing to why someone as preposterous as Trump can go full throttle is the left's failure to even talk about Islamist terrorism honestly. Obama saying ISIS has nothing to do with terrorism was understandably exasperating for many. Thankfully, there are many decent and honest people, including decent and honest Muslims, prepared to identify the links of belief and action.

The left better wise up to this. The failure to do this is making them look ridiculous and opening the door for true bigotry.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Jimizo, is that "true bigotry" as opposed to "false bigotry"

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Sorry, my post should have said "Obama saying ISIS has nothing to do with Islam"

@Outrider I meant that rabble-rousers like Trump wind up true bigots as opposed to those who get called bigots or "islamophobic" for simply criticising the tenets of Islam and linking beliefs to action.

OK. I'm in the latter category and it's very annoying.

"If a white person does exactly the same thing it's not terrorism"

Maybe in some countries/media but most unbiased and quality media know that many Caucasian french, aussies, brits etc have enrolled with isis and as such ARE terrorists.

I get what you mean i.e 'all ppl called Abdel or Karim are NOT terrorists' but it's equally silly to say that a majority of whites are stupid enough to give Caucasians affiliated to Isis carte blanche.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

I'd like someone to identify the news outlets that don't identify Caucasian members of ISis as terrorists because they are white. Sounds like BS from the ivory tower.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

If it is associated with ISIS, or with some grudge against the American government, then it is considered terrorism.

It still happens with white anti government types and should be reported as such. Including the recent plot to bomb a bridge in Cleveland, Congresswoman Giffords attempted assassination and others.

http://www.constantinereport.com/43654/

Bruce & Josh Turnidge, Accused of Deadly Bank Bombing, Feared Obama

" ... Bruce had once tried to start his own militia. He told an FBI agent that he was afraid of the recently-elected President Obama, who he thought was out to take away his guns. .... "

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

it is considered terrorism... Including Congresswoman Giffords attempted assassination

Where does that put the soon-to-be Chief Strategist to POTUS, who published this headline:

Gabby Giffords: The Gun Control Movement’s Human Shield

...or is "one man's terrorist" - Gifford's would-be murderer - "another man's freedom fighter"

http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2015/03/08/gabby-giffords-the-gun-control-movements-human-shield/

SenseNotSoCommon: ...or is "one man's terrorist" - Gifford's would-be murderer - "another man's freedom fighter"

You have "one man's terrorist" and "another man's freedom fighter" in quotes, but searching for "one man" and "freedom" in the Breitbart article turns up no hits.

The article is about the gun control movement and Gifford pushing for more background checks, even though the guy who shot her passed background checks to buy his gun.

It's not defending the guy who shot her at all, which is what you appear to be implying Breitbart did.

We just need to make sure uneducated, emotional citizens don't force shortsighted policy on us because of this.

Why?

That seems to be the standard operating procedure for the left in the US. Why stop now?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It is definitely a point though. Loughner is technically not a terrorist because he was was excused from terrorism charges in court and in the media by default of never having received proper mental health services. It was almost certainly have been a different story if he had been a mentally ill Muslim Arab immigrant instead of a mentally ill white, Christian-Jewish, native-born U.S. citizen.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Well, muslim terrorists do tend to get the "mental illness" free pass.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

But I think less and less. Especially since ISIS renewed its call for knife attacks just last month.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3823644/ISIS-Rumiyah-magazine-calls-Islamists-carry-knife-attacks-areas-alleys-forests-quiet-neighbourhoods-told-aim-reasonable-kill-count.html#ixzz4RKh4id9z
