It will be interesting to see what happens to Thailand now. Major power grabs are about to happen.

While I don't agree with the strictness of the laws and system that say any negative opinion of the King spoken allowed will see those who utter it jailed, there is plenty of reason to have respected the man himself. RIP. It will indeed be interesting to see how the nation, and Monarchy, reacts and if the latter survives this.

the Royal family of Thailand is one of the richest monarchy in the world , their wealth is estimated at around $40billion yet much of the country lives in poverty. No wonder they've got laws to forbid you speaking ill of the monarchy in Thailand, disgraceful.

Rest in peace. My condolences to Thailand.

"give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime"
What do you expect from him? Sell off all his wealth and distribute it to all his people? How much would each person receive in a country of 68 million over the 70 years of his reign. What then, after the money is spent?
Instead, he took the far sighted approach to deceloping his country's agriculture and economy, working tirelessly to build up Thailand's economy over the decades. Not to mention preventing multiple bloodsheds from military coups.
I'm not Thai, but I have deep respect for what he did for his people.

RIP. I never knew he was born and raised in the US, and could only speak a few words of Thai when he became king in his teens! Lets just hope anarchy, coups de tat, and chaos dont ensue now - but then again, that would be normal for Thailand, sadly.

I'm not Thai, but I have deep respect for what he did for his people. the people that have given the most to humanity over there life times are the ones with very little or no money to their names, eg Mother Terrassa, Ghandi etc etc not Kings, Queens, Presidents etc etc

Whether it's right or wrong, he was a well respected monarch by the people, but the same cannot be said about his son, the new King now I guess.

RIP: Thai people are polite and nice. There are many Thai people whose business is Chinese food restaurants in My area and menu indicate Thai. RIP again for King who loved his people.

RIP to the man, he did a lot of good work for Thailand; and the people did revere him, to them my condolences.
But those lese majeste laws are disgraceful; the ruling military junta has been using them to clamp down on political dissent. I'm very concerned about what happens next; unrest is likely, and civil war is a real possibility without this deeply respected man to cool things down. Let's hope cool heads prevail.

RIP.
Long live the King!

A good and much loved leader. Heartfelt sympathies for the people of Thailand who lost their beloved King.

RIP, but what a criminal to have stood by and let his own citizens be jailed for decades for speaking out against him. That is treason

I wonder if lese majeste will end now? Doubt it

RIP and, yes, Bhumibol Adulyadej presided over an increase in tourism, income and prestige for many Thais. But Thailand's lese majesty laws are appalling.
in 2015 two Thais convicted of posting anti-monarchy messages on Facebook received jail terms of 28 and 30 years.
Monarchy complicit in keeping huge parts of the population in poverty and ignorance. 10% of Thailand’s landowners own 30%s of its titled land. A fifth of rural Thais don't even have a bank account.
