The largest, most expensive and most powerful military the world has ever seen is too small? What does he want to do with it? Which 'missions' does he want to accomplish?
With Bannon and his 'fourth turning', it's pretty hard not to think Trump and his followers in the US and eastern Europe want apocalypse, if not now at least very soon.

Scaring countries like Iran, Russia, China and North Korea as of now, they think we are a joke. 10 years ago, you never see Russian or Chinese subs close off the coast of California or Hawaii, would never happen and now they just think they can roll up anytime they want and are not hiding it.
Oh, please. LOL But it does make for a nice novel.

It seems PTownsend would prefer Russia or China as the global leader.

Nonsense. The U.S. already has by far the most advanced equipment and weapons. Just an excuse to spend billions unnecessarily. Put that money towards healthcare for American citizens.

It does strike me as a strange set of priorities where so many Americans will complain so much about spending money to heal, while fully supporting the spending of more money to kill.

Trump stood in front of sailors telling them he will spend a huge amount of money like it would impress them.
They were thinking, Oh great, what about a salary increase? How much of that money will I see? Not much.
In reality, the money will go to the defense industry, which is one of the most corrupt and scandal ridden industries in the U.S. Anyone want to buy a $500 hammer? The defense industry has got you covered Trump!!

USSR/Russia has always been doing that - it's international waters also, so they can do that
China hasn't done that as much but doing it more now - that's mainly because they now have enough modern technology to do it fruitfully (decades ago, they were far from catching up technology-wise). So they were limited by technology
Russia always had the technology, but in the 90s, money was their problem - many of their vessels were not maintained and left to rust. It wasn't until the last decade that they got enough money to do those stuff again. But they always had the will
