I wish only you guys would suffer for it, but alas. Get the oil drills ready wake up the dinosaurs, we're taking a leap back!
MsDelicious
Excellent in my opinion. This is a start of those massive increases in jobs he was calling for and will produce.

The only thing I really need rolled back is Obamacare. The monthly payments are killing me.
SenseNotSoCommon
Screw the planet by hook or by crook.

Trump's mouth has already released enough crap into the atmosphere.

Do the word, "increasingly outdated job sectors" mean anything to you? I'm very much an environmental conscious citizen and would prefer to move forward, not remain stuck in decades old thinking. I prefer innovation instead of "old fogy "gotta stay the same to make the same kinda money" attitude.
Because if someone else comes up with a replacement for oil/gas/coal that eliminates their use altogether, the US will be stuck playing catch up. Seriously, think about it. Even the gulf nations are trying to move away from oil as their main source of income... Because they're running out. Think seriously about it. Find alternatives BEFORE it's too late, not "It's too late, now we have to come up with alternatives..."

Not being 100% familiar with the workings of the US government I'd like to know if Trump can actually make these decisions by himself or does he need approval from the government machine? One reads here and elsewhere that Trump is going to do this and that in a dictatorial manner but can he actually do it?

Not excellent based on economic forecasts, which are more factual than the feelings espoused.
Renewable energy results in more jobs and more revenue retained locally than increases in oil production.
Oil revenue goes to big companies and supports world-wide oil producers.
Coal may bring back lost jobs, but the cost of coal has never included the costs of pollution or the adverse health effects on miners.
Fracking for LNG has been found to poison ground water and result in earthquakes. These costs are only now being examined after blanket denials from the fracking industry.
Trump's so-called policies was a ploy aimed at getting votes. He is already backtracking on his so-called policies, just look at his statements on NATO, Obamacare, etc.. He paid lip service (lied and mislead people) to get your vote.
There is no telling what his policies and his presidency will mean since many of his policies are unconstitutional and/or violate international law, e.g., torture, libel law changes to target news outlets (these are state laws not federal), mass deportations, profiling of religions, wholesale bombing, . . .
Trump is no panacea. He is the candidate least disliked.

A little bit of both. he needs approval from congress, but can make Executive Orders which he alone decides, which ever president forever has done, but Obama was called a dictator for exercising.
viking68
He also controls the executive branch which is responsible for enforcing the laws through the various executive departments, e.g., the Dept of Defense, State, Homeland Security, CIA, NSA, etc. For example, he could instruct a department not to act on a law, e.g., DEA and federal prosecutors not to prosecute marijuana use on a federal level. Or, he could instruct a department to violate the law (e.g., instruct the NSA to monitor electronic communications of Americans), which could be challenged in court (if the population knew about it).
There is also the war powers that allows him the ability (subject to not being an unlawful order) to use the military for up to 90 days before asking permission from congress. Of course, congress has already provided a lot of authority post 9/11 to combat "terrorism".
There is also representation on the UN, so he can exert whatever power a permanent seat provides there.
But there are a series of checks and balances, the legislature must pass the laws, the Supreme Court rules on constitutionality of the laws and how they are applied, the Fed Reserve controls banking. He can appoint justices to the Supreme Court, federal courts, or the Fed Reserve chairman, and once appointed, he cannot remove them as another check on his power.
Most of the time, it is a good system. The problem is when one group controls both the legislature and the executive branch and forces their agenda on the rest of the population to their detriment. However, that usually results in political backlash and loss of power in the next election, so in most cases both the left and right leaning presidents move to the center to effectively govern.

Strangerland and viking68
Many thanks to you both.

Good news! Been waiting 8 long years for this day to come. Finally no more kale salads for dinner!
presto345
The time is near you'll be grateful for that. You just don't realize it yet.
bass4funk
Yeah, to when people had jobs and the country can finally see growth once again.

Basically the US doesn't want to miss out on the fire sale bandwagon in which OPEC is gushing out right now with Russia following. Unfortunately I do not think the US will be able to dig out that much and make a profit out of it in such a short time.
Chop Chop
OPEC is recalling its members urgently. It nice to know oil price will be still low in future.

Trump is the choice of the minority. Hillary is the choice of the MAJORITY. Hillary received MORE VOTES than Trump. The American electorate made their choice, and that choice was HILLARY. The electoral college system has denied the American people the candidate they chose. In ANY other election other than a Presidential election, Hillary would have been the winner, and Trump the LOSER. The majority of the American people DO NOT WANT Trump.
FizzBit
WRONG!
This was an electoral vote election. A popular vote election would have been very very very differently run.
Stop bellyaching.
nadaku
So none of the Trump supporters care about the environment or climate change? Utterly shocking. Putting future generations at risk for a few more jobs, which isn't even guaranteed. Don't think the world will thank the US for it.

I'm more concerned for the millions of women and children at risk from being droned, bombed or fired upon by obama's and Hillarys hegomonic Middle East wars. They've sold billions to Saudi Arabia who are now attacking Yemen. It seems to me Hillary supporters either don't care or don't know about her evil ways.
Strangerland
Actually, the content of what was written was entirely correct. Hillary was the choice fo the majority, and she did receive more votes. She was the choice of the people, and if it were a direct election and not an electoral college election, Hillary would have been the winner and Trump the loser.
But, it was an electoral college election, and therefore she didn't win. Trump is president. There is no denying that. But there is also no denying that more people wanted Hillary than Trump.
pointofview
Minus the illegals and dead people voting, Trump is the popular vote winner. The vote count is still ongoing..
viking68
Electoral College vs. Popular Vote.
There is no way to know how things would have turned out if the popular vote counted instead of the EC. Both candidates would have campaigned differently, and the vote would be different.
It is disingenuous for Trump (or anyone) to say he would have won the popular vote since that wasn't the measure or how the candidates approached the election. The election was run and decided by the electoral college.
In my opinion, the electoral college should be replaced by the popular vote. Not because of this election's results, but because twice now it has shown to create doubts in presidential elections. It also creates too much opportunity for gerrymandering to favor one party over the other in a broad range of important elections.
