Turkey chose to live in darkness. It is a time to mourn for the democratic and secular Turkey. Now, Turks have proven to the world over and over that they want to be an Islamic state ruled by a ruthless dictator, maybe the Western world will now understand they do not have an ally over there, but actually a predator eager to destroy what humanity stands for; civilization. Rest in peace democracy and rest in peace civilized Turkey.

Respect is fine but trying to set up a dictatorship isn't....

Democracy is about who counts the votes, not who votes. Reminds me of George Bush's first election where no supreme court judges could be found. And when the Federal Reserve bank act was passed with only 3 congressmen in session, all bought by the bankers.

Oh boy. I want to see the new constitution he wants to introduce. Dare I say it will dismantle more Kemalist secular safeguards and replace them with Shariah? A safe bet if there ever was.

I feel sorry for the secular part of Turkish society.

Seems only iron-fisted strongmen work in the Middle East

" Seems only iron-fisted strongmen work in the Middle East "

An iron-fisted secular constitution, deep-state system and a strong role for the secular armee leadership worked in Turkey for a long time to keep a lid on the islamists. But once you elect them to power and they start dismantling all of these safeguards, all bets are off.

How future Sultan to be Erdogan won the election: jailing. intimidating and physically assaulting the opposition. Censoring the press. Throwing writers into prison. Of course no one has declared election fraud. They are no there. Good-by what little there was of Turkish democracy and secularism. Another totalitarian Islamic state is almost there and a place awaiting grand sultan Erdogan.

Who can respect a crook like Erdogan? Now we can expect more support for IS and further clampdowns on freedoms in Turkey.

Just like anybody in the Middle East. But as long as they keep the radicals in check
