This an example of how government is supposed to work. ...a system of trained, and experienced professionals (Judicial Branch) protecting us from an idiot despot. Our system is really going to get a workout with the Trump admin.

This case is fairly cut and dried and I predict it is going to be overturned by the circuit appeals court.before the Supreme Court has a chance to do it for them.

In any event, the restraining order issued by Judge Roberts is going to expire this weekend and will not be renewed per another federal judge.

The opinion of this so-called judge, which essentially takes law-enforcement away from our country, is ridiculous and will be overturned.

Love that logic, which basically boils down to this: There is no legal review - I am the law. This results in removal of law, and thus, "law-enforcement" loses its meaning - directives amounting to no more than capricious executive orders.

Trump has a right to fight this in court, of course, but to impinge the integrity of the judge was a shade too far - it slanders the entire American legal system. If only we'd known before the election. Oh, wait - perhaps there were some hints of Trumpian disrespect for the judiciary:

He's a Mexican. We're building a wall between here and Mexico. The answer is, he is giving us very unfair rulings — rulings that people can't even believe. I'm building a wall.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

Incorrect Lizz, the Robarts ruling does not expire this weekend, the article you yourself linked but probably failed to read, has to do with another ruling, not the Robarts ruling.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

That is my error. I had read on another site that the cases were conflated but apparently the Robert temporary restraining order will remain in place as that judge considers a Washington state lawsuit against the ban. I still do predict it will be overturned however. :)

-8 ( +1 / -9 )

Trump mocked U.S. District Judge James Robart, appointed by President George W Bush, as a “so-called judge” whose “ridiculous” ruling “will be overturned.”

Saying things like this surely disqualifies a sitting president from office and exposes his authoritarian instinct. He doesn't seem to understand how his own country works at all. With every day he reveals himself as utterly incompetent. Surely those who supported him can, in their private moments at least, see this. They, like the rest of us, must be unnerved if not downright worried.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

I understand there is a new scholarly book coming out that documents all of the intellect and wisdom of President Donald Trump from young man to the presidency.

The 3 x 5 card will be available April 1st.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Funny how the rightwingers stopped complaining about millenials when it came out that the architect of this nonsense was an inexperienced 31 year old (Miller) whose classmates at Santa Monica High remember being on an anti-immigration kick as a teenager.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

I still do predict it will be overturned however. :)

I heard it just got overturned again and should continue.

-12 ( +1 / -13 )

There are multiple issues with this judge overstepping his bounds if that is what Trump was referring to, especially given district courts rarely issue rulings beyond their jurisdiction when other courts have also issued rulings on the matter.

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

The Cato Institute studied the threat of refugees and concluded that nobody in the US has been killed by a terrorist refugee since the 1970s. Hard to think of any other group with a safer track record than that.

As for halting green card holders, many of whom are professionals and run households alongside good 'Mericans, good luck finding judges to set up legal precedents on such flimsy reasoning. Miller, Bannon, et al., are not trafficking in data-based decision making.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

“When a country is no longer able to say who can and who cannot come in & out, especially for reasons of safety & security - big trouble!”

Like I said yesterday, Trump is preparing to override the judge by claiming national security, which is a constitutional crisis. I think Duterte is threatening the same kind of thing at the moment.

bass4funk: Give us links to where what you said is being said; no alternative facts allowed. Don't forget, you've already stated it as fact; that you heard it on the three major cable networks. No backtracking later.

"so-called judge" says the so-called president.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

“When a country is no longer able to say who can and who cannot come in & out, especially for reasons of safety & security - big trouble!”

The judge is as much a part of the country - and the system - as Trump is. So the premise behind Trump's comment is flawed.

On the defeats he is facing in the courts, CNN put it best before the weekend:

"Donald Trump is learning the hard way he's not the Messiah"

One question to all those that applaud the order.

Do you want undesirables as well as desirable to come into the country without being first checked as to who they really are and their real purpose is?

If yes. Do you want just anyone to board the same plane you are boarding?

If yes. I would not want to board it with you.

Plain and simple. I must "survive" to take care of my family. And, I want positive options and not negative ones.

-7 ( +2 / -9 )

Do you want undesirables as well as desirable to come into the country without being first checked as to who they really are and their real purpose is?

No, but no one has suggested that. You do realize people need visas, right? And for that matter, to get into the US, people from most countries need to apply for ESTA, which is a further check even beyond visas.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

One question to all those that applaud the order. The problem is your thinking is flawed.

It is not that the doors are open and anyone can come in. All of these people have US visas and are vetted like all other immigrants to the US. They in addition go through CBP inspection upon arrival into the US and go through fingerprinting, database background checks just like everyone else.

None of the people from the countries Trump wants to ban attacked the United States on 9/11. 15 of the 19 , 9/11 terrorists came from Saudi Arabia (A united states ally and NOT, repeat NOT banned from Trumps order).

History of Major incidents in the United States have been committed by people NOT from the list of countries Trump wants banned.

-The Unibomber - Caucasian American, Born in Illionis, graduate of Harvard University - Should we ban everyone from Illionis?

-The Oklahoma City bomber - Timothy McVeigh,Caucasian American, born in New York State. Should we ban everyone from New York?

-The Olympic Park bomber - Eric Robert Rudolph, Caucasian American, born in Flordia. Should we ban everyone from Florida?

-The 9/11 terrorists, 15 came from Saudia Arabia, should we ban everyone from Saudia Arabia (no), not to already mention the fact that Saudia Arabia IS NOT on Trumps banned list

9 ( +10 / -1 )

Exactly, Badge. I had a PhD student in material science from Iran whose uncle and other relatives lived in LA (Tehrangeles). He was frequently invited to academic conferences in the US but was continuously rejected (I suppose it didn't help his specialty was explosive welding of metals) - he spent his entire two years here hopelessly in queue.

If there was ever an Iranian to admit, it would have been him. Later, the CIA (pretending to be the State Department) had the cheek to try to recruit him - I helped get them off his back. He could have been killed back in Iran if he'd taken them up on it, and he has a wife and son.

It has long been excruciatingly difficult to get for some nationalities to get a US visa.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

"The U.S. State Department on Saturday moved to begin admitting refugees, including Syrians" (news source)

The number of refugees under Trump in 2017 is projected to top that of 2016 under Obama. Trump voters must start thinking that Trump is a more dangerous president than Obama because of this fact. These include Syrians that Trump and his followers hate the most. It's important to remember that Trump and his voters hate. Trump's campaign was based on hate saying that Obama was born in Kenya, he was going to have Hillary arrested, and that he was going to do other things like have a Muslim registry. Haters like KKK, Bundies, Dylan Roof, David Duke, Aryans, and White supremacists all voted for Trump because they all hate.

This is all happening under Trump's nose Trump voters. Trump broke his promise. He is failing you.

"U.S. to Boost Number of Refugees it Will Admit in 2017" (news source)

That's right kids! This is all on Trump. It's all happening on his watch. It is projected to break the six figures this year (when it was only five figures under Obama last year).

Trump voters: The opposite is happening of what Trump promised. The complete opposite. Remember that.

Badge213: It is not that the doors are open and anyone can come in.

It's the GOP mob mentality. The borders are open and anyone can come in, and their fear is stronger than your facts.

The end.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

What I don't get is that Trump is willing to ban people from coming into the U.S., even though there has been very little deaths (if any) from acts of terrorism caused by people from the countries on his list. Yet, he is willing to get rid of background checks for people wanting to purchase a gun, even though it just makes is that much easier for mentally unstable people to get their hands on weapons which can and has killed much more. He obviously lacks rational thinking and has his priorities misplaced.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

It's the GOP mob mentality.

How so?

The borders are open and anyone can come in, and their fear is stronger than your facts.

Not even remotely true. Where on Eart do you guys on the left get that garbage? If you think so, keep your doors open and let all of us waltz in and out anytime we want, I mean, it shouldn't bother you, open doors, open houses, open everything, let's share and partake in everything we have, no borders, no marriages, open marriages, no privacy, no locked phones or rooms or anything. Dear lord, help us all....jeeez!

-10 ( +2 / -12 )

I for one am surprised trumpy or didn't tweet that this was FAKE NEWS! Well don't be surprised if it is overturned since he appointed HIS new Supreme Court justice a few days ago, and even though he has no power to do so , he might try to FIRE anyone who defies his AUTHORITHAI!

0 ( +2 / -2 )

If you think so, keep your doors open

Yes, Trump is doing this because there will be 10s of thousands of refugees under Trump in 2017 than Obama in 2016. He also didn't ban Saudi Arabia (9/11). Trump is failing his voters.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

I wasn't talking about you specifically, bass. You've been around here long enough to see all of the post and links and descriptions of the vetting process so it's not news to you. You simply choose to spread false information because when fighting against the liberal menace you have to promote some lies every now and then for the greater good.

I was talking more about the GOPers who don't read and think they are being honest when they spread false information about the lack of vetting. Don't get me wrong, it's all part of the same political arm, but you have those who lie and those who are dumb, so to some extent there is a line.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yes, Trump is doing this because there will be 10s of thousands of refugees under Trump in 2017 than Obama in 2016. He also didn't ban Saudi Arabia (9/11). Trump is failing his voters.

So far, he's doing good, now that we have a conservative on the Surpreme court, the delay will resume, I'm patient.

-7 ( +2 / -9 )

So far, he's doing good

How? He's breaking all his promises:

No wall (at least Mexico paying for it), no Muslim ban (and he tried to do while leaving out Saudi Arabia-9/11 attackers), no Hillary arrest, No voter fraud arrests, letting Syrians in, and more refugees than Obama. He is failing his voters.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Not at all. The judge was doing exactly what he is supposed to do when presented with such a sloppy executive order.

Be equally brief and sloppy ?

I know, that's how the left like to see it, they also thought that Wilson was a great president.

No wall (at least Mexico paying for it), no Muslim ban

Don't worry, with so much trade we do with Mexico, getting the money is easier than taking candy from a baby, also Of course there is No muslim ban, never was.

(and he tried to do while leaving out Saudi Arabia-9/11 attackers), no Hillary arrest, No voter fraud arrests, letting Syrians in, and more refugees than Obama. He is failing his voters.

Don't worry, Nishi. The 19 hijackers are dead, the delay will resume now that there is aconservative on the court. Hillary, she's being a good grandma now and good for her.

bass4funk: "So far, he's doing good"

If you call most hated president in history as well as lowest approval rating in the history of the nation as "doing good (sic)". But hey, you guys love your alternative facts, eh? And before you say "Trump doesn't care about polls or approval", don't forget he's equated the comedy show SNL with ISIS in terms of a threat because they mock him so well, and he doesn't approve. :)

0 ( +4 / -4 )

If you call most hated president in history

Worse than Carter, Bush or Obama, give it a few years and then we shall see.

as well as lowest approval rating in the history of the nation as "doing good (sic)".

As I have said before, liberals ONLY care about being liked or loved. I would never support that kind of president.

But hey, you guys love your alternative facts, eh? And before you say "Trump doesn't care about polls or approval", don't forget he's equated the comedy show SNL with ISIS in terms of a threat because they mock him so well, and he doesn't approve. :)

He's telling the truth, but SNL lost its edge as well, they were extremely funny until they just became a political echo chamber for the looney left, but if you guys get a chuckle of it, hey, be my guest.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

Worse than Carter, Bush or Obama, give it a few years and then we shall see.

Heh, Obama who left with YUUUUUGE approval ratings.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

It's just Checks and Balances - at least we know it's still there (many countries couldn't even say that, with the Judicial Branch not checking the power of the other branches - for example, when's the last time we've heard anything about other countries' Supreme Courts? Many have been silent).

The Judicial Branch is equal to the Executive Branch, and it's the courts' job to determine if something is constitutional or not. (Just like when they struck down an Obama immigration executive order.)

At least for its part, just days after firing the acting Justice Dept deputy, the Trump admin is following the court's order while they're going thru the appeal process. This may likely go all the way to the Supreme Court.

The President has the power to control immigration, but it still has to be done within the constraints of the Constitution. The end does not justify the means. There could have been a way to do what he wants to do while staying out of Constitutional challenges, but this executive order was done in too much haste, without the consultations of the Homeland Security or the Justice Dept or even the lawmakers of the Republican Congress. So now it's being challenged.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Heh, Obama who left with YUUUUUGE approval ratings.

The best thing about that is, he can never be president again and do more damage to the country, dodged that bullet! Phew!

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

bass4funk: "As I have said before, liberals ONLY care about being liked or loved. I would never support that kind of president."

And as has been pointed out to you, your argument holds no water when Trump is so threatened by a comedy show mocking him, and only gives positions to those who dote on him. Sorry, bud, but your champion is the world's number one most concerned with who loves him or does not.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

Trump Trainwreck inc. is gathering speed - he has just lost in the appeals court. No surprises there but it does make for hugely entertaining viewing.

bass4funk: "do more damage to the country"

No one has done more damage to the nation than Trump has in a mere two weeks -- it's in complete chaos.

Oh, and you'll be saddened to learn the appeal by the WH to overturn the judge has been shot down. awwww...

0 ( +4 / -4 )

We need to look at this process from the future, not the past. You can't let the issue be the gestalt for your imagination. Like the Tom Wait's song asks..."What's he building in there? He's not building a playhouse for the children. He's got a hook light by the stairs, and I thought I heard someone moaning low. Someone saw him on the roof with a flashlight, signaling. What's he building in there?"

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

I heard it just got overturned again and should continue.

A federal appeals court early Sunday morning denied the US government's initial request to resume President Donald Trump's travel ban (news quote)

One more burn for the Trump voters.

he can never be president again

Obama haters just hate Obama like a dog hates a cat. No reason, they just do- well, maybe it's genetic. But you can't deny that Trump is truly incompetent. He has zero political savvy. The situation would be stable now if Obama was still president - FACT . People who hate him just can't help it. God bless 'em.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

And as has been pointed out to you, your argument holds no water when Trump is so threatened by a comedy show mocking him, and only gives positions to those who dote on him.

Been watching SNL since 1979 and I can tell you it's nowhere near as funny or entertaining as it was 25 years ago. Maybe if they were actually really funny, their ratings wouldn't be sagging the way they have been for a very long time.

Sorry, bud, but your champion is the world's number one most concerned with who loves him or does not.

Yeah, the left wish. But to be fair, if a show like that had the audacity to make fun of my young child, it goes to show how low the show has become.

No one has done more damage to the nation than Trump has in a mere two weeks -- it's in complete chaos.

What? For Trying to do proper vetting? How much time do you have, I can make a mile long list of the crap that Obama has spewed all over the country. Again, if it weren't for Obama and his outrageous and disastrous policies, we wouldn't have a Trump. The man is a clear repudiation of everything what Obama and his minions stood for. That's why Democrats are an endangered species across the political spectrum.

Oh, and you'll be saddened to learn the appeal by the WH to overturn the judge has been shot down. awwww...

For now, but nothing is etched in stone. As Mick Jagger once said, "Time is on my side...." yes, it is!

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

bass4funk: "Been watching SNL since 1979 and I can tell you it's nowhere near as funny or entertaining as it was 25 years ago."

Dude, there is a difference between being funny (or not, and I actually agree it's not nearly as good as it was decades ago) and being a threat like ISIS. I think the fact that you can't acknowledge that and deflect is proof that you know deep down you're wrong about Trump being so insecure and needing praise and people's love, or else ranting like a child if he doesn't get it.

"What? For Trying to do proper vetting?"

hahahaha.... that's a laugh! Especially given how he's rammed through those who praise him into positions of power without vetting them, too, like the guy he hired to head the investigation into voter fraud (boy, THAT went away quickly!) being registered to vote in three states!!

"I can make a mile long list of the crap that Obama has spewed all over the country."

You've been doing it for more than eight years, and still deflect with alternative facts about Obama (like that he went against the Constitution like Trump has, even though Obama never did, and Trump has), why stop now. I suspect, in fact, there's going to be a whole lot more "butwhataboutobamathemuslimborninkenya" now that Trump has proven the disaster everyone with a brain knew he would be.

"The man is a clear repudiation of everything what Obama and his minions stood for."

You got that right, just the opposite of how you intended. Obama went out on a record high -- Donald has the LOWEST approval rating of any president in HISTORY, even making GWB look like a sweetheart (and all of his former cabinet agree Trump is a disaster, btw), and he will go out, very soon, as a complete and utter disaster. I have no doubt that within a few years you'll be back to calling him 'lunatic' again, as you were before he became the GOP candidate and your 180.

"For now, but nothing is etched in stone."

This is... unless Trump once again decides to spit on the Constitution and checks and balances. Won't surprise me if he tweets late tonight/early tomorrow that he might declare a state of emergency on the issue, or something to that effect, which Connway will defend with made up terrorist attacks, Spicer will defend with "opposition is OUTRAGEOUS" remarks, and you guys will defend by deflecting.

But hey, you still haven't given links to what you stated as fact earlier in regards to the three major news outlets. :)

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

For Trying to do proper vetting?

Trump voters think that refugees just come to the USA just by applying for it, waiting a few days, then coming. Right?

Trump voters keep getting burned and burned. Even some Republicans hate him. You have to admit also. Personally their whole family is pretty cheesy.

No wall, no ban, no Hillary arrest. I can't believe Trump voters have all that confidence about him.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

I think the fact that you can't acknowledge that and deflect is proof that you know deep down you're wrong about Trump being so insecure and needing praise and people's love, or else ranting like a child if he doesn't get it.

Smith, I'm not deflecting anything, don't worry, not my style, wrong guy, if Trump cared so much, he wouldn't be trying to push forward the way he is. I think the left want him to care, they couldn't get Bush to care and now they can't get Trump to care about SNL, I think it's lost it's appeal after Mike Myers left.

hahahaha.... that's a laugh! Especially given how he's rammed through those who praise him into positions of power without vetting them, too, like the guy he hired to head the investigation into voter fraud (boy, THAT went away quickly!) being registered to vote in three states!!

Don't worry, thanks to that wretched Harry Reid, looks like Congress will use the Nuclear option to bypass the Dems, since they are taking their sweet time to confirm Trump's picks, we all know exactly what's going on and why, the Dems can take their time from allowing Trump to get his cabinet together and during the proces, Trump will just have to do everything himself, which then for some reasons make the left apoplectic, so if the left want a bit of peace of mind, they should go ahead and do the inevitable and confirm his picks, either they step up or the GOP will use the Nuclear option. Either way, it's going to happen.

Sorry, Obama just for the most part of his presidency governed by executive order. Trump has been on the job for 2 weeks, so in 8 years if he's signed as many as executive orders as Obama, then you have a legitimate argument to make.

You got that right, just the opposite of how you intended. Obama went out on a record high

Only the left cares and don't worry, he won't be in the White House again, so we are at least safe from another round of torture and lecture from that guy.

-- Donald has the LOWEST approval rating of any president in HISTORY, even making GWB look like a sweetheart (and all of his former cabinet agree Trump is a disaster, btw), and he will go out, very soon, as a complete and utter disaster.

He won't be a disaster like Obama was, he's already doing a lot more than Obama did in his entire 8 years.

I have no doubt that within a few years you'll be back to calling him 'lunatic' again, as you were before he became the GOP candidate and your 180.

I seriously doubt it.

This is... unless Trump once again decides to spit on the Constitution and checks and balances.

I don't think there has ever been a president that desecrated the constitution more than Obama, but that's for another topic...

Question, when Earnest, Jarret and Holder were insulatting Obama from any political fallout, did it bother you as equally? Just wondering.

But hey, you still haven't given links to what you stated as fact earlier in regards to the three major news outlets. :)

You can't miss them :)

I heard it just got overturned again and should continue.

The laughing from the above comment just can't stop. Here come the Syrians and it's all on Trump's watch. Trump is letting Syrians in. If I were a Trump supporter I would be steaming. But I have always seen him as a crazy person so I am laughing.

Bass4funk: "they couldn't get Bush to care and now they can't get Trump to care about SNL, I think it's lost it's appeal after Mike Myers"

The level of disconnect is amazing. Now apparently Trump can't possibly care about SNL (despite ranting about it constantly) because YOU think it stopped becoming funny when Canadian Mike Myers left. Wow!

As for the nuclear option, it's not Reid but you're own Mitch McConnell who's so against using it.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

time isnt on Trumps side,

Actually, it is or are you saying, the Democrats are going to TRY and impeach him? Good luck with that. Worked out so well the last time. ROFL?

he's only got 4 or 8yrs in office after that any new policies he gets implemented can just as easily be undone by the next President.

Sure, you are right about that and then, when the next conservative comes in, the same thing will happen again.

Mick Jagger has been doing his trade for over 50yrs!

Love me some Mick!

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

With even the GOP mostly against him, it would most certainly work, unlike all the calls for Obama! haha.

Actually, they're not mostly against him, just McConnell, McCain and a few other establishment Republicans, perhaps, but remember, if they want to get anything done, it would be in their best interest to go with Trump, but assuming they want to keep their jobs in the future, they would. Obama on the other hand, it didn't matter what he did, had he jumped off a cliff, they would have done so as well the lemmings that they were.

The level of disconnect is amazing.

Exactly! Now you understand why Dems keep and will keep losing elections until they get their act together which at this point seems virtually impossible.

Now apparently Trump can't possibly care about SNL (despite ranting about it constantly) because YOU think it stopped becoming funny when Canadian Mike Myers left. Wow!

Pretty much, that's right.

As for the nuclear option, it's not Reid but you're own Mitch McConnell who's so against using it.

That's McConnell, but the others will have to use it, if they want to get Trump's picks through the confirmation process, which will happen.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

since they are taking their sweet time to confirm Trump's picks

So, do you think it was right for the Republicans to waste time and not select any of Obama's picks when he was in office? Hey, if it was alright for the GOP to think of any and all excuses not to confirm any of Obama's picks, then it should be alright for the Democrats to take their time in selecting or not selecting any of Trump's picks.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Democrats are going to TRY and impeach him? Good luck with that. Worked out so well the last time. ROFL? considering many Republicans despise him as much as the Democrats , its certainly a possibility while not likely. After all Pence will be his replacement and even he is an improvement on Trump, many hardcore Republicans can see this.

Checks and balances working. As designed.

A Federal Judge gets to overrule the President's orders when they don't stand up to legal/Constitutional scrutiny. That is how it is supposed to work.

State AGs don't have that power, but a Federal Judge does. The ruling will be appealed and move to a district court next. More legal eyes on the order. Then I expect that will be appealed by the losing party and the US Supreme Court will look at it. Then, and only then, will this be addressed.

System is working.

President Trump cannot remove this Judge. The system doesn't allow that.

Judges hold their seats until they resign, die, or are removed from office.

The way a judge is removed for bad behavior is by impeachment in the House of Representatives AND conviction by the US Senate. Unlikely. Basically ,a federal judge has the single, most, stable, job, in the USA Govt.

But Syrians are coming. Trump could not stop it.

For now, let's see what the Supreme Court will say should it come to that point.

For now

No, they will come. It's a done deal. Trump cannot stop it. The number of refugees will beat what Obama let in. Also, the Iran deal will stay. Trump broke his promise about that.

This so-called "so-called judge", U.S. District Judge James Robart has not ruled that Trump's executive order is right, wrong, or even constitutional.

.....But in his written order Friday, Robart said it’s not the court’s job to “create policy or judge the wisdom of any particular policy promoted by the other two branches,” but rather, to make sure that an action taken by the government “comports with our country’s laws.”

The right honorable judge has agreed to hold the case over for trial where it's merits can be argued.

But to be fair, if a show like that had the audacity to make fun of my young child, it goes to show how low the show has become.

I expect this comment to get deleted, but...

Are you talking about that tweet mocking Barron Trump, by any chance? Well, inexcusable as it was, it was a tweet written by one of the show's writers in a moment of stupidity and she was let go for it. It was not approved by the show and no jokes were made about Barron Trump on the show. So you have either been deliberately trying to misrepresent and distort the facts here, or you're just too dumb to properly check what the facts are before going off on a self-righteous rant.
