Vietnam was pretty stupid over this issue, they greed of oil and risking a conflict with China. Didnt they realize their economy was recovered from the 30 years war and now is going to shatter if the things goes nasty? America will save vietnam with aircraft carrier? Wasnt the US navy were anxious by the Chinese periscope stalker?

Let's face it, whoever has a navy wins the round......................

“Not only me, but all Vietnamese people will die to protect our territory.”

Then there will be no people for Vietnam and then China just walks in and says Hi. Thank you.

China is hated more and more.

Sounds like some Chinese are hating their own country more and more ergo recent riots, etc.

Protests are extremely rare in Vietnam and are typically quashed quickly by security forces

Well at least they have that in common...

China may still think it is the center of the universe and its own law is the law of the world ,like few hundreds years ago before the West discovered China. Of course it is no longer correct but some morons still think that way. Its lucky for Vietnam ,Philippines and the rest of SEA that the U.S still has interests in Asia Pacific region. When in doubt, just stick to America , it is the power ,the light and the civilization!

Vietnam is a country you don't want to mess with. It's the Afghanistan of southeast Asia. The word "defeat" doesn't exist in their language. China doesn't realize what it's getting itself into.

Communists vs communists.

I guess it's round two for PRC VS Vietnam. I believe PRC lost the last round. I wonder which will be victorious this time.

Yet another issue with Chinese "popularity"?

The last time a would-be 'superpower' thought the Vietnamese would be pushovers, things went rather worse than expected for them.

It was a national 'heritage' to lecture lessons over vietnam from Chinese perspective,so it was a matter of when, where, how but not why! The Chinese government has made annoucement 'no use of force'! So lets see the viets are they going to drill the sea bed!

China = Big Bully Boy

The countries are signing contracts with large oil producers to drill in the area, the next move may be these companies drilling to explore if anything of value is there. They might be able to drill in uncontested areas and don't forget the old sideways drilling method. The oil giants will be supporting the government they signed with. The plot thickens.

China should wide-out Hanoi as soon as possible because Hanoi is a war creator. Hanoi must pay the price because Hanoi alleged to kill hundred thousands Cambodia's civilians when they invaded Cambodia in 1979. Even now, Hanoi alleged to send more Vietnamese to live in Cambodia, Lao, and Thailand as well. Hanoi tried to control Indochina and Thailand. China must wide-out Hanoi and Cambodia can have their land back.

I applaud Vietnam for having courage to stand up to what is right. All other Pacific Rim nations are bowing to China. You need a strong stabilizing force in South Seas to counter China. Vietnam has alot of experience in wars and they are not a pushover. China should not take Vietnam lightly. They don't mind having war.

kudos to Vietnam

China tried to invade Vietnam in 1979 and got their butts kicked. I wouldn't be surprised if it happened again.

It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.

vietnam may not have as strong physical power as china does. but there's one thing that vietnam has always had: the power to astound its enemy and the world with unexpected and uninmaginable power when the time comes. by the way, it's worth mentioning that vietnam has always been the most misunderstood country in the world. some think vietnam is cruel and are savages. They use exemples like the war with cambodia. but when you get to know vietnamese's history, you'll find out all that vietnam has ever did was fight back with all it had. viva vietnam - great nation.
