Sounds like a savvy move to beat potential disruption from others providing similar services, and in such a tight market, a good way to get a leg up on competitors like Peach air.

Surprised that there is no mention here of Billy Mills' historic win at the 10,000 meters, last time an American ever did (Galen Rupp was close, second in London)

Christ, give it up Japan. This, coming from the fisheries committee. Whale aren't even fish.

I would be more impressed if they fast-tracked something more imperative, like education reform, or buckets to catch all the water that's leaking outta Fukushima.

I think it would be fairly easy to rustle up a poll saying that 1/3 of men who want a wife also don't want to have to hold down a job as the family breadwinner......this isn't particularly scientific.

In anticipation of their comeback from the ashes, the Japan Restoration Party has been renamed as "Their Party". Yoshimi Watanabe could not be reached for comment.

Anyone watching the last few international matches can tell you that they haven't suddenly been able to "find their game." Recent matches against Bulgaria and even Australia show that the team has been struggling to put all the pieces of their team together.....which is completely NORMAL at this level of play.

I think the Brazilian team deserves more credit quite simply for playing very high-caliber, aggressive, and integrated football. No shame in that at all. And yes, extended travel topped with play (Japan one week, Qatar the next, Brazil right after that) DOES have an impact, just recognize it for what it is, a compounding effect, not a sole determiner.

What I don't understand is what people can't simply be honest about these kinds of things. Why can't the commissioner of Japanese Baseball say "Look folks, ticket sales have been slumping lately, and we're really looking for an edge wherever we can, so we decided to make it more exciting by making super-bouncy baseballs."

And then Mizuno can say "Look, we're really greedy, and we want to screw our competitors by agreeing to a contract where we are the only ones who can make Bouncy Balls. Because man, I mean just look at us. Our balls are so....bouncy!"

Stop and smell the irony: I wonder how many non-Japanese have been convicted based on forced confessions given in poor Japanese? I bet access to a lawyer seems pretty important to those folks.

@Fizzbit - Mauritius is a country, not a person. This is exactly the kind of lack of international awareness that likely prompted the giggles in the first place.

@issa1 - Money doesn't buy respect. These "bums" are peers, not subjects. If the actions of your legal system can't stand under the moral scrutiny of your peers, then maybe this little bloody nose is well-deserved.

While this figure represents less than 10% of the total, 11,000 is still quite a high number. My guess would be that a large number of these people are some combination of quite elderly and/or living alone. These people are the most likely to be out of the loop and unlikely to be making informed decisions independently. From TEPCOs perspective, I wouldn't be trying very hard to find them.
