Again the type of drug is kept vague.

1.2 grams of stimulant drug crystal

I guess the whole story is talking about crystal meth but it is typically vague. The idea seems to be to just have everything illegal called a drug or a stimulant without distinction even though effects are wildly different, as are dangers.

He is also suspected of using the drug as he tested positive through a urine test after his arrest.

Well, it is said that Asuka tested positive from drinking tea so I am not sure what to make of this.

It sounds awful. What will be the hydrogenated oil and transfats loads? It doesn't seem to have made it to Japan as a health concern yet all these spreads seem to contain it.

his approval ratings just went UP this week according to the latest Rasmussen Poll

Perhaps from 3 to 4 people. And one of those was drunk at the time. I can't seriously believe anyone supports Trump now except as some kind of ironic gesture. I don't believe anyone is so blind as to be unable to see straight through him now. He's a conman. Always was.

Just for the sake of our edification and enlightenment, can those who identify fake news so perspicaciously tell us the truth about the Trump press conference? We may have missed some wires or smoke that give away the reality.

there has never been a presidency that has done so much in such a short period of time.

Hard to argue with that, if providing a decade's worth of satire material is doing so much. I don't think there is anyone left out there who can take him seriously now.

Let's see now. The school wants to teach the kind of stuff beloved of Nippon Kaigi. Nippon Kaigi has great influence among LDP bigwigs and no doubt parts of the bureaucracy too. I would be looking there.

It's a good question, especially as it is not necessarily just what is included but what is omitted. When I see news on issues I happen to know more about I often think it does not concur with what I know and naturally I wonder if news about everything is either created out of ignorance or to maintain some line or stereotype. But anyone with a critical education and scepticism should be able to navigate the news most of the time. Oftentimes things just won't add up.

it is “good” that children learn about the country they live in at an early stage.

Well, it would be good if most adults in Japan knew something about their country too but most seem pretty oblivious to almost every aspect of it, except to the extent it affects their immediate lives. It's frankly "highly regrettable", as they say, that an "advanced" country has so many citizens who have such little context in which to put themselves and mostly seem to believe the polar opposite to reality. And this is all in part already the result of "learning" about the country in school, though the submissive media helps.

You don't need a doctoral degree to teach. Research maybe, though I have met academics even outside Japan who do great research without one. So, though your proposal might have some effect on amakudari, BakabonPapa, I don't think it will improve quality necessarily. The quality of teaching and learning is so poor in Japanese universities that no doctorate will change that.
