Wish my ex-fiance had said he was mildly autistic with Asberger's. Would have helped a lot and avoided a lot of pain. Wasted a few years of my life wondering what was wrong with me...

Let us return to the original plan to simply rebuild the wholesale/jonai area in place. This will also allow the social and business relationships to continue that are such a part of this unique institution. Go go go Koike!

Strangerland, could not agree with you more. Unfortunately, through grueling personal experience.
People go out to avoid situations they cannot avoid and to continue with them simply to breathe is not supportable. Let's respect their decision.

Rather like this photo of the deshi scrubbing the floors of a wood floor. Many memories of doing the same and enjoying the sense of history. Not sure where in Yasukuni this photo is taken, though.

No. Let's just learn to live with nature, already. I love that Japan has not fallen for the false-flag of DST.

Koike is going to win this one. Ishihara is just pathetic. Can we get on with rebuilding Jonai in place and keep this unique and functioning quite well 80-year old center of Japan's food? Jeez Louise. Enough already, Ishihara.

On the other hand, mandatory retirement age limits tosses fully functioning and qualified university teachers and p/t instructors out arbitrarily. Hope other universities will be there to accept this fine teachers, who are not relying upon dishonest amakudari positions.

Sanjigen, I would rather eat fish from Tsukiji anyday. The original and still only workable solution is to rebuild the wholesale market in situ, as was successfully done with Tokyo station's massive renovation. The Tsukiji market is built on more than construction, it is a system of relationships between people, buyers, sellers, restaurants, grocers, etc. that has evolved over 80 years! Would be heartless and pointless to destroy this when it can be retained with much needed reconstruction.

Could not agree more! Just go with the original plan years ago before that idiot Ishihara got involved and derailed a perfectly sensible "upgrade in place" plan with his "let us make loads of yen off kicking out the wholesale market and building a huge condo-depaato for my concrete construction buddies" plot. Just renovate in place, aka, Tokyo eki. No one will trust fish etc. with a "Toyosu market" label, and why should they?
Posted in: We don't want to go to an unsafe place. Instead of the relocation, the Tsukiji market should be redeveloped.

hafu is not going far enough. I am American/USA. Like many Americans, we have a plethora of genetic backgrounds. So, the fascination in Japan on 1/2 has always seemed to be slightly pathetically simplistic. What do I mean by that? Well, from my own genetic background, here is my multiple 1/2ness
After that: Native American Indian (Dakota Sioux), French, English, Scot, black Ethiopian, Irish. A lot more complex than basic 50/50.

Won't catch "terrorists", that lovely bugaboo, but certainly gropers. If that is what it takes to make these creeps stop, fine with me. Terrorists are pretty much an illusion and an excuse for a police state. Now that "terrorists" know the trains will be bugged, expect "terrorism" somewhere else. Living in fear is the hope of any government hoping to rule by fear, such as Abe-san and our own Trump.

Looks like a niche for immigrants. Come on Japan, man up and hire refugees from Yemen. etc.

If the current situation falls into a negative spiral of a decrease in customers and difficulties in finding workers, it will further encourage the tendency to curtail late-night operations now and beyond.

Perhaps Toshiba's unloading its nuclear section will signal an end to the nuclear industry. My question would be who is going to buy? What if they can't find a buyer? What if they are actually saddled with their insanely lame and predictable losing nuclear investment? Too bad Toshiba did not invest in renewables instead.
