Something does not add up at all here. When you deal with the Yaks, well, lets say, they generally will not strong arm you unless they've given you something first. Basically, never get a favor of any type from a Yak or you'll regret it. You know, when Don Corleone says.... "and that day may never come", but it does. I doubt very much the Yak gave him info on how they operate... although he may have used the reporter to hurt competition... but that would still be an even exchange. I'll bet the Yak got the guy laid for free a few times and then he started putting the pressure on him.

I wonder.... since the rumor is that many Taxi Companies are affiliated with organized crime, in the case a Citizen did such a thing.... would they call the Cops first or the Yaks?

Makes me wonder how many other people ( Japanese ) die each year in Snowboarding / Skiing accidents. I mean, this seems to be news because he was a "foreigner".

You know... unless you grow up 100% Japanese, you can have an opinion, but I don't think you can have one with any major insight. However.... when you look at the number of 1DK apartments in Japan, relatively low wages versus cost of living, strict social norms, general belief in reincarnation, number of people that take on debt with only one way out, and don't want to cause "meiwaku", well, its part of the recipe for a higher suicide rate.

Guess it depends on what you grew up with.... me, I absolutely loved Daylight Savings Time. The extra hour of sunlight at the end of the day was great.... we could play baseball, basketball and other sports for an extra hour and our parents could watch TV in peace for that extra hour too.

On June 20th, 2017, in Kyoto, the Sun will rise at 4:43AM. In Tokyo on the same day the Sun will rise at 4:25AM. In Sapporo, same day, 3:55AM. In Boston, MA, with Daylight Savings, the Sun will rise at 5:09AM and Set at 8:14PM.

Not so much in favor of Daylight savings.... but I am a proponent of Japan permanently moving its clocks 1 hour forward. For much of the summer the Sun in Japan rises at 4:30AM. Such a waste. Just move it permanently.

A male dominated society and a culture whereby people are taught to keep quiet about their problems. A recipe for a high possibility that many rape cases could go unreported.

No matter what North Korea does, (outside of direct military confrontation), Japan should have zero dialogue and zero business with them. Pay them absolutely no mind. They do not exist and never reply to their overtures. Forbid any Japanese citizen travel into N. Korea, and if they do, and something happens, sorry, they are on their own. They knew the consequences. Why? Because N. Korea is like a 2 year old child, one that cries for attention and if you give it them they'll cry for more. While you're out shopping and they want a candy bar.... here comes the temper tantrum if you say no. The rest of the world needs to just put a total black out of any news coming from them. If they launch a missile don't even report that they did. No communication and no news about them. Any country that trades with them should be penalized. N. Korea, for too long, has threatened its neighbors for no reason.... it needs to stop.

Fricking typical.... think about it. Japanese salaried employees are the most screwed employees practically in the world. They're like indentured servants but for life. And why do I say that? Because, in general, they cannot expect to leave their job and find a higher paying position elsewhere. Therefore.... they're stuck. In much of the rest of the world, you quite often cannot find a better paying job unless you switch companies..... that does not, for the most part, happen in Japan. And the other crazy thing is.... in much of the rest of the world, where companies pay more, those companies are doing fine... they're making money and paying dividends and growing. So where is or what is the benefit of continuing to do things the "Japanese Way", if no one is actually benefiting?

Sounds like this idiot felt he might be safer in Jail than out on the street. Maybe he messed around with the daughter of his boss, or, boss's boss. Or wife.

I rented, via AirBnB, a house in Chiba last summer for two months... while there I bought a new bicycle, an monitor for my PC, various other things and spent quite a bit on groceries. All in all I probably spent around Y500,000 in those two months there not counting the rental. To me, it would behoove the neighbors and townspeople to be kind to renters and to help them figure out the garbage situation. After all, all the money they spend it going into the local community.

A lot of insecure children in Japan with low self esteem. They've been talking about doing this and that for decades to stop bullying but it appears nothing has changed. In the USA... bullies were often portrayed in TV Shows or movies and they always, in the end, got their comeuppance. I don't watch much Japanese TV.... but if they don't, they should start putting more bullies on the air.... and always portray them to be the person with the real problem.

Love it... they're just following the laws of the land.... well what if those laws were written by large corporations to stifle competition? Sure... that OK... its a law of the land! That is total BS. How's anyone gonna get ahead if at every turn their new ideas are legislated into oblivion for the good of the land... and large corporations.
