Matsuyama has a great swing with a sudden pause at the top that is often commented on by the announcers. He may not have the 'magical' smile of Ryo Ishikawa, but he sure has a golf game. Reminds me of a younger Jumbo Ozaki during his prime. Matsuyama won a heck of a lot of dough for winning.

I wonder if this will become trendy around the world. It might give President Obama another term. I would never invite Trump or Hillary to a karaoke party, but Obama would at least give a nice welcoming speech!

Yes, I am old school, but isn't putting makeup on something you should do in your bathroom in the morning or in your room? But in public.? I once tested a woman if she would continue to put her make up on. I was wearing sunglasses that day and something I normally do not do. A woman sat next to me and started rummaging around inside her purse. My peripheral vision saw she was searching for makeup. I then blurted out while looking straight ahead, "Hope you are not going to put on your makeup." I spoke Japanese and said that very politely. She stopped what she was doing and sat there. I was surprised and happy. Actually, she had several options. 1. Get very angry at me 2. Ignore my request and start putting on her makeup 3. Possibly move to another seat 4. Get off at the next stop. 5. Not even begin putting on her makeup after hearing my request. Have to admit, I was surprised she chose number 5. She did not speak to me during the next several stations that we went through, but when she finally got to her station, she stood up, and bowed to me (I guess in apology). I bowed back. Ah, one moral victory I thought.

Congratulations to the Cubs. Faithful fans have waited too long. Maybe I had a hand in their victory. LOL

Have a listen. I shared this on the Chicago Cubs Fanzone site.

My son works for Dentsu and I certainly do not see much of him during the year. Wonder if anyone has any information on which companies have employees working super long hours. Thanks for sharing if you do.

One typhoon after another. Is this a record this year for the number of typhoons? My wife told me it will be 33C tomorrow. That is truly warm for beginning of October. Love the cooler nights. Maybe this is the last typhoon. Stay safe everyone!

I do feel sorry for convenience store garbage areas. More than often not, truck drivers or car drivers will place their garbage in the receptacles probably meant for things eaten or bought at the convenience store. I see this practice every day and it is especially worse at night when the workers come home after a long day. In a positive light, I guess it is better for this to happen than the drivers throwing their garbage on the road. Most do not do that.

All I have ever hoped for was for S. Korea and N. Korea to become one country during my lifetime, but that is a very laughable dream I suppose.

After a 10 year absence of any kind of NHK solicitor, I got a visit at 7:15 p.m three weeks ago. I had a run in long ago and never thought it was a 'law' and that everyone who had a TV was obligated to join. Anyway, back to the visitor .. when he said he was from NHK, I blurted out in Japanese that I had major problems in the past and was not participating. And then for some reason I said something about the police. I think my Japanese came across as I was gong to call the police because he quickly turned around and left.

I talked with my Japanese friend who went to look up the 'law' in his local library and he came back saying I should be paying them since I have a TV. He told me this law was set up in 1950.

So this is the advice he gave me.

1.. Speak only English or another language 2. Say that I was unaware of any obligation to pay 3. Stay calm (don't want to upset the NHK person - possible big penalty for not paying in the past) 4. No need to answer the door especially if visiting during dinner time.

These are just a few comments he made.

One question I do have. If everyone is obligated to pay the fee, why doesn't the government ask the electric shops to tell their customers they will and must pay a monthly fee to NHK if a TV is purchased.

My Japanese friend also mentioned that many Japanese do not pay or quit paying since the NHK scandals. He also mentioned that 'yakuza' refuse to pay and the NHK collector is often too scared to go and visit them.

Yes, just say NO, if you can get away with it, but hopefully it will not come back to haunt you. Often remember reading George Orwell's 1984 when I was a college student and remembering mention of Big Brother. And to me, NHK is portraying itself like Big Brother.

Your responses and experiences are most interesting!

Hope this is being played big on Japanese TV and not for just one time news. I no longer walk the main road on my way to the station. The fear of some idiot driver suddenly leaving the main road and crushing me has crossed my mind. Stories like this will happen again ... sad all around!!

The constant chirping of cicadas will fill the air with new trees planted all around as spectators and athletes look for ways to keep cool. Wonder what the number of indoor and outdoor events there are. Does anyone know?
